message: mailbox is almost full

I checked my webmail account and found both trash and spam are emptied. Inbox has 30993 messages. Message this morning from verizon.net said my current size is 1680477 KB. Doesn't seem possible. Can't find so many anywhere. Is this a scam?

However it wouldn't take many attachments, especially photos, to fill up your mailbox with that many saved messages.

If it helps to have a comparison, my mailbox has 4,500 messages filling up 41 MB of space.  (I recently deleted a LOT of e-mails.)
