Valid.
It even tells you to log into myverizon and check under announcements where you will see this very announcement.
I had the same question about the announcement. I made the changes on my pc, and all is well with it. However, after making them to my iPad and iPhone, I can no longer get email on either one. Did you solve the mystery related to this?
If this isn't spam, it might as well be. It's been circulating for at least two years; the addressee is referred to as "Valued Verizon Customer" instead of by name; the signature is "Your Verizon Team"; and people who have (unwisely, I think) gone ahead and followed the instructions have found that they don't work. All of these are hallmarks of prank spam. If this email is actually from Verizon, they've done an extremely poor job here. I won't be changing any settings until and unless I'm convinced this is real. Get on the stick, Verizon — if this is really you, that is.

This particular email is only a few months old.
But they really mean it this time. They are going to close down some of the other older email options this time.
