sending email to a group

How do I obscure the individual recipients when I send to a large group, so that everybody doesn't get the email addresses of everybody [some don't want theirs given out]?

Use BCC (Blind Carbon Copy).  In VZ mail you have to select this option from the button to the right of the "To" line.
