Select file

select account settings

select add account - but presumably you did that

so select edit and double click the account you set up

enter your name and email address

account type po3

incoming mail server incoming.verizon.net

outgoing mail server outgoing.verizon.net

logon information your verizon email address and ythe associated password

do not check require SPA

select more settings

general enter the account name

ougoing server, check smtp server requires authentication

connection, select connect using LAN

advancedincoming pop3 110

outgoing smtp 25 - use 587 if the setup is on a travelling pc

do not check ssl connection

That setup works fine on my desktop for the verizon account.

If you are trying to add accounts other than the verizon one there will be slight variations such as the incoming mail server and the outgoing smtp port.

Those are great instructions, there are also new settings that just started rolling out.

You may need to use those as well.

I have the same problem.  However I cannot click on "file" because when I open Outlook 2010 it immediately takes me to a setup page where I enter the info and click next.  When I get to the end and click on the "test settings" button, it says the same thing -- sever not available.

You will have a much easier time if you ignore the automatic email account setup in Outlook 2010 and opt for the manual setup.  It's a bit tricky to locate the correct options, so just keep plugging away.  When using the manual setup, just make sure you enter the suggested pop/smtp setting and ports, plus SSL security, and you will be good to go.
