I received a second notice of changes coming to Varizon. I attempted to make the changes on my laptop and as a result am not able to send messages. Tried going back to the original settings but still won't allow sending at the message. I use Mozilla Thunderbird for my e-amil system and have done so for many years. How can I get hold of a verbal Verizon assist stationed in the U.S.- I have a problem understanding employees that have to be sent over the system with the satelite delays.

I believe all FiOS tech support is in the USA. (I know it at least was, at one time.) If you have a DSL/HSI account, though, they wouldn't be able to pull up your account. You could try asking to be transferred to someone in the US, but success rates vary.

As for resolving your issue, you might try searching these boards for help. The email changes have been discussed at great length, and it is likely the solution to your issue is posted already. If not, try posting more information about the issue you are having (your current settings and the error you are getting), and someone here might be able to help.

Best of luck!

I also use Thunderbird and the new settings work.  In case you didn't note the TIPS paragraph shown below,  with Thunderbird  your password authentication does need to be set to normal.

TIPS: Depending on your email application, you may need to turn off Secure Password Authentication and, if applicable, make sure your Authentication method is set to “Password” or “Normal password.” In addition, you may need to restart your device for these new settings to take effect and for your email to continue working properly.

I posted this for another user on a different thread, but since you are using Thunderbird as well, I hope it might help:

Go to the SMTP settings for the account, and verify that your settings match what is shown below. (With the exception that instead of "username" your actual username is present.)
