We have verizon DSL service. My husband is running Outlook 2003, Windows 7. Suddenly over the past few days, we are getting errors and he can't access his email at all through outlook (though he can still use the web interface).
When I search for information on the Outlook server settings, it doesn't help that there is NO support for Outlook 2003 (only 2007 and 2010). Still - server settings are server settings, right? And it WORKED until recently, so I don't get what the problem is now!!
We have always used:
On the verizon/yahoo help site I see:
On verizon's help/support, I see:
I've tried all of these, with port 995 incoming and 465 outgoing. NOTHING is working. When I try to test email settings, I am able to establish network connection, Find outgoing mail server, and find incoming mail server. But it fails to log in, or to send test email message.
Error says "Outlook could not connect to the incoming mail server (POP3). The problem could be your SSL or port settings for the incoming server. Verify your port and SSL settings under More Setting on the Advanced Tab."
I have set everything as directed on the Verizon help pages; I've tried the troubleshooter/help app. PLEASE HELP.
https://www.verizon.com/ForYourHome/VZRepair/vziha/Service.aspx?ihaweb=EmailSetup will walk you thru setup. I see you didnt mention that you turned on SSL for both servers. The ports and ssl were the only changes needed for Yahoo accounts.
Tried that link. Ran the setup. Outlook 2003 with verizon yahoo still is giving me error messages and won't work. What to do next?
Report your error messages so your peers, like me, can make suggestions..
Official recommendations are on http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/verizon/mail/ymail/basics/mail-12859445.html NOTE THE URL's Stick with them if using YAHOO. I have not found a newer recommendation for pop.yahoo.verizon.net that you mention, and the help page was updated this month.
Note some have had trouble with missing intermediate certificates so get encryption errors. Shouldn't happen (except if you are missing the root certificate, which is your responsibility), but can be fixed by installing manually.
Some have reported needing to specify email@example.com rather than just userid, I believe on the SMTP side. Normally you specify only userid and password without the @verizon.net.
I am replying to an old post but hoping to help someone else with the same issue using outlook 2010
Was having the same issue as posted by scrappydeb where my email kept asking for password and said incoming server wasent working.
After much fiddling I called tech support and found the verizon customers that opted for the yahoo online expericence years back and still use the yahoo.verizon.net servers just need to make a small change to their user ID.
All you need do is include your full email address for your user name in the outlook settings.Thats it.
Tech said it was a pemament fix for old verizon/yahoo users.
Hopefully this will help someone.
PLEASE HELP.....My outlook stopped sending and receiving quite some time ago and I started getting a pop up to enter user name and password. Last time it happened Verizon had changed a setting on the pop server and once I changed that it was fine. This time absolutely nothing I do works and have been on with Verizon for hours trying to figure it out and they don't know - even after a proxy into my computer. These are the messages I'm getting. I have changed all of the incoming and outgoing to all of the ones recommended and still nothing. I am beyond annoyed.
Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password for this account in Account Settings. The server responded: -ERR [AUTH] Authentication failed
Send test e-mail message: Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password for this account in Account Settings.
Sorry you are having difficulty. An agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or to help you resolve your issue. Please remember to check your spam/junk folder if you do not hear from an agent.
am using incoming.yahoo.verizon.net port 995 and outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net port 465 and mail suddenly stopped working. Need help
