Major Issues with Windows Phone 8x (resets, inconsistent battery, powers off)

I purchased windows phone 8x back in february, looking to change things up from the Android devices I was used to. At first, I was satisfied with the phone and its features, although the lack of apps was a bit disappointing. After using it for several months, I began to notice some quirky behaviors. Data connections would refuse to connect, I would pull the phone from my pocket and find it powered off, couldn't get picture messages, just infrequent enough for me to tolerate it. Over the past couple of months, I have seen it take a serious downturn. The unit resets itself several times a day, powers itself off at random times, and it has the most inconsistent battery life I have ever seen in a phone. I have exchanged with Verizon, receiving another phone, and at first that seemed to be a remedy. After using the new device for a couple of days, it began to exhibit the same behaviors, and now I fear it is just a poorly designed phone. This model is in serious need of help, and i regret the day I clicked the buy button. Are there any others here with the same complaints? What good is a warranty if the problem is the design?

I have been noticing strange things happening with my HTC 8X phone recently as well. For example whenever I charge the phone in my car or at home the phone continually vibrates or chimes (if the volume is on). Then last night I shut the phone down since I was getting tired of hearing the vibration noise. When I turned it back on all I saw was the black screen with white lightning bolt and gear icons on the screen. I then restarted the phone and it rebooted ok. I'm worried this will keep on progressively get worse until it dies.
This is my second Windows 8 HTC 8X phone this year...the first one froze up for good during a system upgrade. Obviously there are some major hardware and operating system issues here which still need to be resolved. I thought going Windows would make a lot of sense after being on Blackberry for all these years. Now I think I should have gone Android! Problem is I still have over a year until I can replace this thing. Ugh!

My phone is powering off as well since the update. Also experiencing the "no sim" issue and "can't send text msg" issue. Usually more than one of these is happening each day.

Hi seacreature - Let's get you phone back to its glory days! Was the SIM and text concerns occuring before the update? Have you tried removing and reseating the SIM? Does the device restart when using a certainly app or process? I am eager to get this resolved once and for all!
Thank you,

Hi Yalek,
Thanks for chiming in to help. I really to appreciate verizon's and htc's efforts to remedy these issues. I received a second 8X about six months ago. Verizon has already offered to provide the nokia windows phone as a replacement but don't really care for the look and size of the nokia. I like the 8X and want it to work! Hopefully the new software update alleviates some of these issues.

I am also experiencing all of these problems. Has anyone found a fix or a recall or something?

I am experiencing the same problems. This phone is incredibly unreliable. It's unfortunate because I'm a big fan of the WP8 experience, but the defects make this terrible. Got my phone in December 2012, don't see any end to problems in sight. For the SIM card issue, contact HTC and get them to send you a new SIM card holder. That fixed the problem for me for at least a few months. But really, with the can't send text issue, I have no idea what to do.

I understand your problems. I have a Windows 8 HTC purchased January 2013. My phone has done some strange things over the past few months including displaying that it cannot find the SIM card.
But today it will not turn on at all! I charged last night as usual. It worked fine this morning but within about a few hours it had powered down. It won't even take a charge. I have read about removing the battery to see if that helps but - How do you remove the battery on a Windows 8 phone?!!
I need help!!

We're here for you, Verizoneedhelp!
Can attempt this step to see if your power comes back http://support.verizonwireless.com/support/devices/knowledge_base.html/66228/
Do you happen to have a spare charger to see if it charges when using that one instead?

I have looked through these forums and realized that I went through pretty much every problem to ever hit this phone. My first problem came when my phone just randomly went in to a "bootloop" and it took me forver to fix. I have had the problem with the constant sim card invalid message; I have the constant "try again" problem with texts, and now I have it where it is freezing when I try to reply and then booting me to the main screen without sending. I also went through a point where it constantly rebooted. I have tried multiple hard resets and soft resets; they do not help. I don't think they have done anything to fix any of these problems; I hope they help you out

YaleK_VZW,
Thanks for your responses to folks on this thread. I came here looking for some answers as I am experiencing the same issues that many here are posting (random resets or power off, sim error, text messages not able to send w/o phone reset, receiving double text messages, etc).with my HTC 8X, purchased in Jan 2013. None of the fixes suggested have worked for my phone either - it is not related to 3rd part apps, resets don't help, etc.
Would appreciate your help - thanks!

bwsu, you're so very welcome. We're here to assist you in any way that we can and we appreciate you reaching out to us in this forum. Does your device have any physical or liquid damage? Did you perform a master reset in Settings, which wipes the phone out and reverts it back to factory settings? For the steps on how to master reset your device, click http://bit.ly/y5iuoj

Thanks for the reply LasinaH_VZW. There is no physical or water damage to
the device. Master reset does not solve my issues. As evidenced from the
many other folks on this thread, this is just a defective device, under
warranty & would appreciate resolution. Willing to DM with you in the
future, so this thread is not filled with our communication.
Thanks!

Experiencing all of these issues as well. Bought my original phone in December 2012, had it replaced in April 2013 for a few of the issues mentioned. Since then, it's only gotten worse: today it won't stop rebooting itself, and charging light keeps blinking red and green. This is aside from the double SMS every time, inability to send out SMS, losing signal often, rebooting once in a while, and camera flash working only when it feels like it, to name a few.
Any advise different to rebooting, reseting, and testing it for a few days without the apps would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks to everyone that has already done some of the basic troubleshooting that has been recommended. We really want to narrow this down for all of you that have experienced this.
Please enter boot loader screen and state if it shows PM2310000 P S WP8.
Steps to enter boot loader screen:
1. Power off device.
2. Press and hold power key until the device vibrates
3. Press and hold vol up and vol down simultaneously immediately after the device vibrates
4. The device will not boot up in white screen
Thanks for all of your cooperation.

This doesn't work. I've "followed" ArnettH_VZW, but he's not following me. I cannot send a direct message. Why don't one of you send a direct message to me, so I can reply to that....
