LG EnV Touch "Battery is required" screen

So I bought my EnV Touch about 4 months ago from a friend who had it un-opened in the box. I had to peel the protective plastic off when I got it and it has worked great until now. I have two batteries for it. I keep one charged and sitting around just in case and I pretty much only use the one in the phone. I have never needed to change the batteries out so I never have taken my battery out. That being said, I am getting a screen on my phone that says "BATTERY IS REQUIRED" and it wont start up. Once in awhile I will get the verizon intro screen with the music playing. That will play through and then freeze. Once in awhile it will only play the first second of the music and restart again. This is getting kind of annoying seeing how I am unemployed and really need my phone to work just in case I get a call for an interview. If anyone can help that would be awesome. I would hate to have to spend what little money I do have just to buy another phone. Thanks.

P.S. I have kept the phone in very good condition. I have never dropped it, never gotten it wet. Ive never even closed it that hard. If you were to see this phone you would think I just bought it brand new.

There has to be some reason why it is not seeing the battery. Do you get any messages when you plug it into the wall? If you plug it into the wall charger, does it turn on and work? Have you changed the batteries? Please make sure when changing them that you do not touch any of the contacts on either the phone or the battery with your fingers. That can cause problems also, and you could use a contact cleaner, or an eraser on them to clean them,
