Hello,
A couple days ago, I was typing a text message, and my Samsung Brightside's screen went black. Now it won't turn on at all. The most I can get out of it is a logo to appear when I pull out the battery and plug it into the charger. It's only about a year old, and there is no water/physical damage that I'm aware of. It broke during my first week of college, so I haven't been able to call my family or anyone from home. I am unfamiliar with the area and can't get transportation to a Verizon store.

Sorry to hear your issue.
Call 8009220204 from a fellow students or a pay phone or land line there and speak with tech support. They can discuss options with you.
Best Wishes

Oh no, cresterline. That's not a fun way to start your first week at school. The Brightside is a great phone and it sounds like you've already tried a few things I was going to suggest. Our friend pherson had a good suggestion to borrow a fellow student's phone and call 800-922-0204 (or *611 if they have Verizon Wireless) if you have no other means of communication and can't make it to a store http://bit.ly/3SdsA for a hands-on evaluation. I have also sent you a follow request here in the forum. If you'd like me to review your replacement options, please access https://community.verizonwireless.com/actions to accept my request and follow me back so you can send me a private message with your name and mobile number to get started.
Thank you
