Last week I upgraded with a Samsung Convoy II sch u660. I like to use airplane mode so I can listen to MP3's, and use the alarm clock while saving battery life. I'm one who needs to inhibit the phone so I'm not disturbed when sleeping. I've owned many dumb phones mostly LG's and Samsung's. This sch u660 is the fist phone I've ever owned that puts the phone to sleep when it's in airplane mode. The alarm clock works fine in regular mode but it will not go off in airplane mode. If I push a button and wake the phone up it will sound the alarm if I do so within 5 minuets after the alarm set time. Obviously if I need to wake the phone up to get the alarm to go off I don't need to set an alarm.
My wife has had this phone for two years and I tested her phone and it does the same as mine. The alarm will not sound in Airplane Mode. One of my co-workers has the same phone and I tested his phone as well. His Convoy II's alarm will not go off when it's in Airplane Mode. I've asked my wife and co-worker if they were aware of this and they both said they don't use airplane mode.
I called Verizon tech support and they said it should work and offered to send me another phone. I told them not to bother being I've tested two other Convoy II's and they do the same thing. My company phone is a Convoy I and it works fine in Airplane Mode. I've checked for software updates, reset and reactivated my phone and it still does the same thing, Nothing!
Is anyone out there aware of this problem with the Convoy II, if so have you found a solution? All I can say is the Convoy I was the best dumb phone ever made. I had a pretty good run with the LG Chocolate 3 VX8560 too.
