Should I be billed for text messages I did not open?

I pay per text, not a lump sum in a plan. During a two-day period in July, I received 21 obviously spam text messages (obviously because no one I know sends me texts; they know I don't open them; yes, I am a dinosaur). I deleted them unopened.

Yes, you will be billed for them. Your phone received them even if you didn't open them.
