Why is my data being used on Wifi?

I don't know but I've been with Verizon for months they put me on this  two  I feel like I'm on a prepaid.. I don't understand I'm Wi-Fi at home on Wi-Fi at work how am I burning data.. Jt sayin...

RDsmith, we want you to feel like you're on top of the world on our network. Have you viewed your data usage details online at My Verizon? http://vz.to/1JIOpu2  Additionally, some devices allow you to view your data usage directly on your phone in Settings. Which make/model phone do you have?

why is this discussion in the BASIC PHONES area? Also I will assume you have an iPhone. if so that is your issue.
