ear sound and charger not working on my Lg cosmos

i have an old Lg cosmos and just reactivated it for my daughter but she has to put calls on speaker to hear the caller,  why

We understand the need for clarity in communication. No one wants their conversations heard by everyone. Can you talk to me a bit more about this, greengrape? How soon after re-activating did these troubles begin? Is there anything, perhaps pocket lint, in the headphone or charging port?
