unwanted spam ads pop-ups

Hello all,

I have an LG Cosmos 2 with no data plan and no internet access etc. It's just a phone and texting and that's ALL I want. All of a sudden for about a month I am getting pop-up ads and other "On this Day" crap. Is there a way to stop this annoying, unwanted, communication? Besides changing phones and companies? It's annoying enough that I am considering it.

Well, we figured it out. Menu - apps - Daily Scoop - Menu - change all of the settings to none or uncheck all that you have checked. Somehow these got set so it looked like I wanted to receive these daily offerings. I didn't do it consciously so either my toddler did it accidentally or my pocket did. I hope this helps someone else.

Sounds like "Premium messaging" - reply STOP to the texts, and call to see if there is a $9.99 charge on your bill for premium messaging.  Then go online to your MyVerizon account and BLOCK premium messaging services.

How did it happen?  You may have taken a survey online, or answered a Facebook question from a friend, or signed up for a ringtone...and the premium message deal was part of the "terms" you agreed to when you did so.  It happened to me via Facebook, and I was getting a "joke-a-day" and got charged the premium fee - nipped it right away and blocked premium messaging, and it hasn't happened since.

I agree. I am getting scroll ads that I'm sure Verison is getting a cut from. Then you should lower my bill or stop sending scroll ads to my non-smart phone or I will switch services.

Guys

You dont necessarily need to block the premium text messages the STOP message will work. The block could be used as a last resort.

More importantly if you have not request the service then a refund is possible there are specialist companies that can recover  your sms refunds just google it or pm.

I hope this helps

I think you saw my original message. Thanks for your cooperation.

To the original poster, I suggest blocking premium messaging.

Same here.  Getting something like Daily Scoop and some Weather Report CRAP.  Nothing I signed up for.  What I'm seeing, since I generally have keyboard locked, is an image in the lower right corner of the screen.  When I unlock the keyboard, _sometimes_ the thing runs, _sometimes_ it opens the APPS folder.

Try downloading Air Push Detector from the market and run it on your device to verify it isnt a application that has advertisment in it, if it finds anything try remmoving the application and see if the adware stops..

I agree that this isnt Verizon causing this, it is something you installed or accessed that allowed these messages..  Blocking

blocking premium messaging.is a very good suggestion also.

The misbehaving APP is called "Daily Scoop", but

none of the suggested methods to terminate it seem to work on my LG VN251.

Ok, I stand correct Daily Scoop does appear to be a Verizon product installed on all LG devices and as far as I can tell there isnt any way to disable the applications alerts...

Check all this post should cover any questions you may have..
