Verizon Pixel 2 XL

Hi,

I am trying to make a decision on the Verizon Pixel 2 or the unlock version from the Google store. I am wondering since My Galaxy S5 will not receive updates if I don't have the Verizon Sim in will the Verizon Pixel 2 XL work the same way? Where do the major and Security software updates come from?

Google. The updates for the Pixel phones come from Google for both the phones purchased from Verizon and the directly from Google.
