sound equalizer not working after system update G920VVRU4DQL1

With the recent update, G920VVRU4DQL1, 12/27/2017, the sound equalizer no longer functions. you cannot access the advanced sound options through the setting menu or the equalizer setting in the Samsung Music App.

I checked my wife's phone and her's has the same issue.

No sound app allows the equalizer to work.

Yeap really stinks. Hope someone knows what to do. Ill make a topic as well

Is there a way to disable the app? sometimes when you disable an app it will

revert back to the original app before any updates?

It's not an app its in the settings of the phone.

I tried so many different things and nothing worked. the sound equalizer functioned the day before the update.

It seems like it was disabled in the latest update from Verizon. Maybe Verizon doesn't want us to use the equalizer.

I wish there was a way to revert to the previous software version.

Did you try factory reset? I would, but i just dont feel like reinstalling everything. I might break and try it though.

No, i have some security software on it I need for work , so factory reset isn't an an option right now.

Try a System Cache Wipe first.

Power down the phone
Press and hold the Volume up, Home, and Power keys at the same time
When you see the Samsung Galaxy S6 logo, release the Power key.
When you see the Android logo, release the Volume up and Home keys
Press the Volume down key until 'wipe cache partition' is highlighted
Press the Power key to select the option
Press the Volume down key until 'yes' is highlighted
Press the Power key to select the option
When the wipe cache partition is complete, 'Reboot system now' is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.

I tried the cache wife and came up with the same results. No equalizer..

I definitely want you to be able to use this feature, rush86. Let's look into this and get this fixed. Please clear the app cache/data for the equalizer. Settings>App>App manager>SoundAlive. Have you put the phone in Safe Mode to test the equalizer? If not, please put the phone in Safe Mode. Here's how https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-152233/.

I have gone through my App settings App manager and there is no SoundAlive app listed. I searched the play store and there is no app called SoundAlive.

There is no app for sound alive. If i did mention there was, i made a mistake. There is an app called adapt sound. But no way to clear the cache. This isn't an app though to begin with. This is something thats in the settings, under sound and vibrations. Its part of the phones software and the update broke it.

FWIW, I have a lot of music on my phone. I use the Pi Music Player. It has an equalizer that can be manipulated. There are equalizer apps in the PlayStore. Have you looked into any of this stuff? Very odd Samsung would remove functionality from their device, unless perhaps code licensing became a problem...

I cannot perform a FDR due to security setting on my phone needed for work so I just downloaded DUB music player from the playstore and am using it for all my music.

I would prefer to use the built-in Samsung music player.

Looks like they messed up on this update.

Well I did a factory reset. And it still doesn't work. So Samsung or Verizon disabled it. Or one of them did it by accident, caused by the new update.

I'd contact Samsung tech support. I highly doubt Verizon disabled that feature.

Yea that's what ill have to do. But i highly doubt they'll fix it anytime soon.

I also love to listen to music from my device. What we can do is contact our internal software team here at Verizon and they also work with Samsung so we can get more details on this being disabled.

I will keep you posted when I get more details.

As of 1/4/2018 I received some details on this matter regarding the equalizer since the software update. They found the Artefact for Sound Quality and Effects does not exist with the recent update and it is obsolete, however, the issue will be fixed with the next software update for this model. There is no ETA at this time.

We can't roll back the update and have normal functioning phones again?

I have a 3rd replacement phone being sent to me this week for this issue.

At least we now know we are just wasting time and energy with frustrations due to a software update we were recommended (forced) to install.

You got a replacement phone. Just cause the sound enhancer and equalizers don't work? Everything else works fine. I downloaded sony music center for now. Which i use to play my music. It has a bass customisation option, and sound equalizer. You aren't forced to install an update. When the notification pops up just hit back or the home key. You can just keep ignoring it and never install the update. As far as i know the update won't start by it self. I do hesitate though when software updates come out for anything. So many things get broken cause of them.

I know how important it is to want your device to function as you would like. I am sorry to hear the number of replacement devices you have gone through, as well. As this is a software related concern, unfortunately, replacement devices will have the same issues until the new software is released. I do apologize as there is no ETA at this point regarding the software update to address the equalizer concern, at this moment, per Samsung. There is no way to remove the most recent software on the device once it has been updated, without voiding the warranty of the device at this point. I can assure you Samsung is working diligently to address the non-functioning equalizer.
