Corporate Email - Exchange Problems Question

Hi - I just ordered a Droid X yesterday and was really pyched until I read of all the problems getting the Droid X to work with corporate Outlook / Exchange for email, calendar, and contacts both in syncing and getting notifications of new emails. This is an absolute necessity for me, so much so that I will cancel my order if possible. Can anyone tell me if these issues have been resolved? I'd hate for my first smartphone to be the less than exciting Blackberry, but I need to use this for work. Thanks!

I am having the same issue. Hope someone can help. The set up on Blackberry was fairly painless. I know I will love the Droid but that and the fact that I have a MAC are a bit frustrating. Blackberry really has it together when it comes to Mac syncing. I need help with both issues.

Well looking at the Motorola Droid X discussion forum, this is still a major issue for anyone that uses Outlook 2003. I am getting my phone on Monday and am very worried that I will have to return it right away as I need my email and calendar. I'm surprised this issue is not raised more on this board as it is the number one discussed problem on the Motorola forum.

I currently have the Droid, and I am upgrading to the Droid X. I have no issues with using Outlook and Exchange. What version of Exchange are you using? Do you have SSL enabled?

I will try to help you any way I can. And when my Droid X comes in, hopefully I can get it setup the sameway.

How can your outlook mail client cause this problem? I do have outlook 2k3 and it's not giving me notificiations. I will get one if I remove and add the the acccount back but not afterward. If I remove the battery I can get 1 notification and afterward nothing.

The email works but this notification issue needs to be resolved.

Outlook 2007 works for me without having to do anything besides set it up on the phone, of course. I get e-mails pretty much when they hit the exchange server and when I delete them on my phone, it moves them to the deleted items on my computer. I don't think there is any way to delete them on the server through the phone.

I cannot endorse the new Droid X. The Orig Droid or the HTC Incredble work great!

I have Exch2003SP2 running on WinSvr 2003. I have quite a few Droids (orig) and some Incredibles. All setup the first time around without any hicups. The only limitation seems to be with syncing folders. It looks like it only syncs the Inbox in real time. While all of you other OL folders are visible when you select (open) then it takes a while for the Droid to pull down the folder contents which tells me it syncs on demand only. Contacts & Cal sync real time though.

Now my bad news. I got the new Droid X and for the last 2 wks I have been struggling to get it to connect to my server. I have gone past VzW support to Moto Tier1 and Tier2. So far nothing they suggest has worked. That is what scares me. They are "suggesting" this and that because they dont really know! I setup the account exactly as I did the other two and when it goes to connect and verify credentials with the server, it comes back with "error connecting to the server". You can only go back or try again. If you exit the screen you loose the settings and have to start over again. My guess is there is a problem with how Androids ver of Acitve Sync communicates with Exchange. No one at Moto will say the "b" word right now. Rather they keep sending me config changes to my exchange server "to try". Well Im not going to take any more chances screwing with the server configs just "to try". Im going to fall back to the the original Droid or the HTC Incredible. I just hope the Droid 2 does not suffer from the same "b".

When I got to the second level of technical support at Verizon last week, they told me they were "working on" the exchange email problem with version 2.2, and gave me the "touchdown" workaround in the meantime. Very frustrating!

Google is your friend. Motorola is providing a free copy of Touchdown application for Droid X users having corporate email problems. Touchdown is a great app (allows sorting your contacts by last name and many other benefits - and no I don't work for NitroDesk).

Touchdown works very well...... I downloaded the trial (30 day trial, real nice), and have not had one problem with it yet. I have been using it for over a week now, and plan to purchase it before the trial is over.

The people at NitroDesk has done a real job with it... Minimal configuration on my side, Touchdown did a real good job with figuring out what mode to use, and it works. It even has a decent widget that shows new email, shows upcoming meetings, and it shows new tasks too.

Make sure you download the trial to make sure that it will work for you. That is why they give a 30 trial. They don't want people to purchase it if it doesn;t work.
