I need a number that I was texted from yesterday, but I have deleted the text. Is there a way to retrieve this?
Unless you have your texts backed up somewhere, once they're deleted they're gone.
Have you checked your text log in your My Verizon account?

If logged into the desktop version of My Verizon as Account Owner/Manager, click View Usage in the middle of the screen, then scroll down a bit and click View Messages Details. Select the appropriate line if there's more than one on the account.
Keep in mind that only texts that go through VzW's servers will be on the text log; iMessages and third-party apps don't go through VzW's servers.
