Looking for fix for Verizon Messages+....It crashes everytime I select attach. I have an LG V20.
Exact same problem here. Just started happening yesterday afternoon. No changes to the phone, which is fully up to date (LG V20) and no changes to Message+ either. I tried rebooting the phone a couple of times, but that didn't help. Uninstalled and reinstalled Message+, but that did nothing to fix this.
Note: canned help desk responses about restarting phones or reinstalling app will be openly mocked.
I have the same issue and the same phone. I also fully up to date and have tried several messaging apps including pulse and google messenger with no success. I have been able to use Textra without it crashing but I prefer message+ and hope they come up with a fix. Factory reset of the phone fixes the issue temporarily but it always comes back. I have verified this with 3 resets.
The LG Messaging app seems to work fine though.
I noticed this as well I think it's because when you attach a file it opens up the Google file manager and not a built in file navigation UI. All appsthat use a separate file manager to attach files seem to work fine.
Forced update and now many of my apps (facebook, whatsapp, message+) cannot upload photos from gallery. App links to gallery with no photos and then restarts app. The canned answers dont resolve.
I'm having the same issue as Fiskwill without having forced any updates. I very much suspect that Smithersss is correct on this one and it's an Android issue rather than with the Message+ app. I can no longer directly attach files from gallery/file system in Instagram, Facebook, and several other apps. Because this began happening shortly after the latest Android update..
At any rate, we're at 24 hours since the original post and still no Verizon response here. Not even a "we're checking on this" or "new update being worked on now.."
Still crickets on a solution?
cdvaughn, your messages and memories are important. Let's work to get to the bottom of this. Which LG do you have? Do you recall adding any recent apps, games or software? Are you connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data when this happens? Are you able to receive picture messages with Messages +?

After update, apps do not call up media database to upload photos. Apps are updted, caches cleared, etc.

All I do is message. If my text messaging didn’t work, I may as well have no phone. I understand how important this is to you. I’ll be more than happy to assist you. When did this issues start for you? Are you connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data when this happens? Are you able to receive picture messages with Messages +? Are you able to add attachments using any other messaging application?

The issue started the night before I found this post and responded to it. So that's about two days now. It doesn't seem to matter what network I'm on, whether it's my in-home or public WiFi or the Verizon network. I can receive picture messages and can even send them if I use the in-gallery "share" option and select "Message+" but cannot attach directly from Message+. Basically whenever I press the "attach" button (the big +) the app crashes. In Facebook, Instagram, and other apps when I attempt to post a photo via the camera button or + button in those apps, they show a blank area where the gallery would usually be shown and a symbol saying there is nothing on the phone.
Because this seems to be universal to the phone rather than app-specific, I'm making the guess that it's related to the latest Android update (which went live a few days ago) and the file system itself, not the Message+ app in particular. The standard built-in messaging app on the phone will work, but runs very slowly when I attempt to attach anything and does not show access to "sent-received" photos/images, only to things saved on my phone or its SD card.
I depend on my messaging service to work right Smithersss. We are here to help. What model device do you have? Is the Message+ App up to date? Are you getting an error within the app when it closes?

Sorry for this inconvenience. It's important to us that we work towards a resolution for this issue. Did you power your device off/on since updating the software for your device and updating the software for your applications?

My phone doing the exact same thing. Started after an update several days ago. Customer support needs to read these posts:
-Restarting does not fix
-Reinstalling the Message+ app does not fix
-Updating the message+ app does not fix
- Does not matter when, where, how, or what type of attachment. Happening in every circumstance
App literally crashes immediately when trying to select attach for anything to a message
Same issue here. Same model phone. Possibly started with the latest Android update?
I've gone ahead and called out @VerizonSupport on Twitter for not seeming to think this is important. You all should do the same.
My phone doing the exact same thing. Started after an update several days ago.
App literally crashes immediately when trying to select attach for anything to a message work around is to go into your photos and share. This is rediculous. Probably instituted on purpose as the v20 is now two years old
AARTUR48,
That's certainly too long to deal with this. I can assure you that we know this is important and we're dedicated to solving these concerns. I know you need to be able to fully utilize all functions of your phone.
Please place the phone in safe mode. http://spr.ly/6588DCF0k Once you have done so test any of these apps you can still access and see if the same thing happens. Please keep us updated on the results.

Message+ also works also normally in Safe mode for me, able to attach to messages again..
Unfortunately most other apps are not operational in Safe mode.
Mine crashes as well every time I hit the plus sign. Went to Verizon store to investigate and she said it was a reported issue by looking at this thread. So...any more we need to do to help push this up the chain to get fixed? Very aggravating.
I'm also dealing with the same issue. Since the last security update, I cant add photos or attachments. It crashes the message+ app. But I can text and receive texts/photos. My cloud app crashes as well, but I havent even fully set it up so I dont even open it. Apparently we're not the only ones struggling with this. Ive tried to do soft reset, I've deleted 3rd party apps, ive used safe mode(of course it works perfect there) but nothing is resolving the issue. Ive deleted cache, temp files, even the message+ app with no fix. Lg v20 was a good phone until this last security update!
Has anyone checked to see if the google photos app crashes for them as well? I tried to use it to back up photos, and it crashes as well. My other lg v20 has just started doing the crashing of apps as well.
Yeah. They "Verizon" say it's probably an app that causes these problems. I agree, so why did they install it on our phones.
Exact same problem too! LGV20 also! Cant hit the + button!
notla,
Thank you for providing the helpful information and for everyone's feedback. We want the Verizon Message + to work flawlessly. I have successfully reported this issue to a higher level and we are investigating it. Thank you for everyone's patience. Not to worry, I am confident that we can get this resolved soon.

I am having the SAME problem! Also, in my Facebook app, I cannot retrieve/attach photos from Gallery either! BUT, if go into Gallery and 'Share' a picture, you can upload it to either message+ or Facebook! Seems this all started after our last System Update for the LG v20.
Thanks for those details Fetz4. We will keep moving forward. Next, we will want to access your account. I have sent you a Private Message to begin.

I am having the same issues. My message + app crashes every time I try to attach a photo in a message. Instagram gallery is empty with no photos to select, unless you change the drop down at the top to "other" but even then you can only select and post one photo at a time. Facebook tells me "you don't have any photos or videos here."
There is something corrupting the applications to be able to connect to the gallery or photos of any type.
Not being able to use simple phone functions for almost 2 weeks now is a serious issue.
PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!
I am having the same problem, and do believe the bug was in the latest Android Update! Verizon has been NO help in the matter, even as it affects their apps, too.
I believe Google creates these Android Updates...
I am having issues since the update too. I cannot access gallery photos from several apps and I've also had calls go directly to voicemail for no reason. I'm so frustrated!
Tick tock. Tick tock. Can someone at Verizon please update the customers here on how your team is working on this issue? Is there an ETA of a fix? Over a week is really making us feel like this is either a low priority or a complex issue. Please advise.
I'm not too sure we're contacting the right people...since this happened, I
believe, in the last Android Update, and that is done by Google. I could be
wrong, but it definitely was the update messing things up. Probably why
we're not getting any replies from lowly Verizon support...
Thank you for reaching out BRAHMA1387. At this time we have no additional information this issue. From the detail you have provided us with, this issue should be solved by the manufactures next software update.

When will the next software update be Verizon Wireless Customer Support?
This is only helpful if the next 'manufactures software update' is today. However, typically they are several months in between updates.
Garbur40, I do apologize the first private message was not received. I sent another private message so we can get to a prompt resolution. We appreciate your patience with us on this matter.

My Google Photos is having issues uploading from my V20. Started Saturday. Also cant post pictures on Facebook as it shows I dont have any pictures on my phone .Can't attach pictures in text messages using message+ really annoying because I've checked every setting, reset, deleted apps, deleted pics.
I don't use Google Photos, instead I have Gallery & it has the same exact
issue! Spent 9 hrs today on the phone with LG, Google, & Verizon! The issue
with the 'crashes', so to speak with FB & Message+ did not get
resolved...But, there is an alternative for now until the last Update mess
up is fixed! Since you have LG v20, look in the LG app album and find the
orange colored 'Messaging' app and make it your default Text Message app!
All your messages from Message+ will show up in it! Just tap that app, it
will ask if you want this yo be the default message app, tell it yes! It
will work great with your photos, then. As for Facebook, go to the Play
Store and search for Facebook, as there is another one in there, 'Facebook
Lite'. It is like the old version of FB, the icon will be a white
background with a blue F in it...install this version and run it! This
version will also recognize your Photos & can upload within FB! No need to
uninstall the new version, just tap and this old version and it works
fine! Then wait until they have another Android Update, and maybe they'll
correct the bug in the last update.

So far my best workaround has been to load photos in the Gallery app and use the share button to send it to another app (Message+, FB, etc), which only occasionally crashes. The same works for Google Drive and Dropbox. This means that using a photo as a response to a FB or Twitter post isn't possible, but it does allow photos to be used for original posts. Better than nothing for now.
Because the built-in message app is SLOW to use (very, very slow: I look at blank "loading" screens continually and for several seconds (up to a minute) at a time) it is largely useless for quick communications. So I continue to use Message+, which is quick(ish) and still shows attachments. That slow built-in app is why I went to Message+ in the first place. Plus Message+ can be synched across devices allowing me to use my desktop or tablet in tandem.
I know the importance of being able to send those important pictures when needed, mowgli122692. I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. What model is your phone? Are the Message+, Instagram and Facebook apps running the latest versions as found in the Play Store or App Store? Ditto here. The Message+ app has stopped crashing and will usually pull up my gallery and so forth for posting. It sometimes does that in odd ways, with the photos in an odd order (rather than "most recent"). Still cannot access the gallery from Instagram, FB, and others.
Same here on the other apps. Of course this was an update from Verizon's
app, Message+...
Rmcfadden10, thank you for reaching out to us. We went to ensure this issue get resolved as soon as possible, so you can fully enjoy your device. Can you list what steps you have already taken to attempt to correct this issue?

Yes. Everything good. Lots of temp files were cleared, which seems to have fixed the gallery photos showing in odd order.
