Downloaded and installed Froyo this morning. Here are my first impressions
- Lock screen - New look - Uh OH... here we go. I remember when Microsoft DOS 5.0 was the rage. Clean. Efficient. Easy fit on one disk. Now Windows 7 takes up over a gig of hard drive, just to run the computer. Yes it looks a lot nicer, but that is the price you pay. But I digress.... I like the new look. The unlock slider doesn't lag or stutter. Whoops... my unlock code is not there anymore, I had to set it back up, which took about 30 seconds. The input of the pin also has a cleaner look than before.
- Checked out all my widgets on all home screens. They all were operational and running. Nice... wait a minute.. there is a notification icon already up there. It says that I have updates available..... hmmmm I did not go into the Market yet. One benefit already.... pressed the icon and Gmail says it has an update. Updated Gmail, no lost email/conversations whatever they want to call it. I did read yesterday that Gmail was being updated, but only for Froyo machines. Guess I have to get used to having a Froyo machine.
- Checked out a couple of my real important apps. All were working, and much faster working... I can get used to this.
- After getting ready for work, I put the phone in the Car Dock. WOW - the dock software was up after about 2 seconds. Usually it took over 15 seconds to come up. Click on a couple of the large buttons and it is really quick. I like this.
- Checked out a couple of other apps at the gas station. Everything I have tried is working just fine, and most of the apps are working faster. MUCH FASTER.
- Voice dialing - NO INCREASE IN SPEED. It still takes 15-30 seconds to bring up the voice dialer once I press the button on my headset, but the phone being in the car dock, I can see when it asks me what do I want it to do. Works just as well as it has in the past, so I am happy with it. This was one place it couldn't break. I need to use it.
- After getting to work, the first snafu/snag/app that doesn't work as well. I use Iheartradio to listen to a couple of different stations (Sports Stations mainly). LOTS of LAG and Buffering problems. No its not my location, I have full 3g bars (my employer has in the building antenna's for Verizon). I had buffering lags once in a while before this morning, but only at work 45 minutes, I have had more buffering issues that I did in the past two weeks. DISAPPOINTED, but that happens. It was a free app, and it might be that the station that I listen too (from my hometown) might be having internet broadcast issues today. I need to try out a couple of other stations to see if it is the app, or just the station.
Overall, I am happy. It seems stable enough, but it has only been 5 hours since the install, so I need to work it out some more. The speed increase is pretty good. Not superfast blazing can't keep up type speeds, but faster than it has been.
No major hiccups.
That is a good thing.
Have a good day
[Edited to add] - I tried a different station on the iheartradio app. No buffering issues.... so it is a problem with the station that I was listening too. They have a problem with their internet feed I guess.
