Droid X not recognizing 802.11n

Using a D-Link DIR 655 router originally set to:

802.11 Mode = Mixed: 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n

WPA Mode = WPA or WPA2

CipherType = TKIP and AES

The Droid X would connect to the network fine, but could not browse or load anything from the web. Not until I stepped down to the slower "802.11g only" mode, could I get it to work.

Is the lack of access to the advertised 802.11n protocol a hardware or software issue? How do I seek a remedy?

Due to the long wait time at Motorola support, the Verizon rep gave me the Motorola support number 1-800-734-5870 to call for myself. Despite the notification that wait times could be 25-30 minutes, I spoke with a support rep almost immediately at around Noon today.

Just before the call I had upgraded the firmware on the DLink DIR 655 A3 to 1.21 and was in the process of testing it. I was able to connect and browse the web under both "802.11n Only" mode and "Mixed 802.11n and 802.11g" modes while the Moto rep patiently awaited my results. Still only transimitting at 2.4 GHz.

Since I am using TKIP and AES cypher type, the Moto rep said consider only using TKIP if I have problems going forward.

Looks like the problem is solved for now.

I've contacted Verizon Wireless Technical support and they said they would follow-up with Motorola when they open later this morning and get back to me. Since its a Wifi issue, Verizon said they don't support that directly.

I am able to connect to both my n and g routers (yes I have 2 in the house)

My n router is set for n only. At first it would not connect, but once I remembered that I needed to add my phone to the MAC filtering on the router, it now works flawlessly.

I have not tried to connect to my n router int he 5 Ghz spectrum, because I have wireless phones in the same spectrum, so I only operate at 2.4 Ghz.

My n router is a dlink DIR-628 and my g router is a linksys compact router.

I don't expect 802.11n to be supported until Froyo 2.2 is installed in the Droid X. It isn't supported in the 2.1 OS

Interesting that my Droid X is working on my 802.11n only router........ also interesting that handsfree dialing also works on my Droid X too

I am running Android 2.1 update 1....
