WiFi completely spastic & unreliable since Froyo update.

When I first got the Droid a few weeks ago, my old wireless router just didn't work with it, so I went out and bought another one.

That worked really well and all was good until last night when the Froyo upgrade happened. Now the wireless constantly drops, reconnects, drops, reconnects over and over again, making the phone unusable unless I turn WiFi off entirely.

Is there any way to downgrade? As far as I can tell Froyo gives me nothing I really need, but has basically obliterated my ability to use WiFi.

Has anyone else experienced weird WiFi behavior since?

I am having the same problem. I called verizon tech support this morning they told me that it was an isolated incident. They told me that they would send me a new X if it persists. Im about to call them back and see if I get a different answer because I am not the only person with this problem. I did also go to a local Verizon store and they were no help at all just got me even more frustrated and wasted a hour of my day. I waited 30 minutes for someone to help me and the guy was clueless and left me to help another customer. not cool!. I think they were more interested in selling phones then helping me out had a really bad experience at this particular location. I Will not go back to this location. If anyone knows how to fix this issue lets us know.

my wifi is dropping and reconnecting as well...thx for pointing this out...stable wifi worked before update great.

I experienced this after the update. I fixed the problem by unplugging and replugging in my router. Seemed like a big problem but after the restart it works perfectly.

I just did a factory reset on my X and it fixed the WiFi problem. Just make sure you have your info backed uo before you do the reset.

Rebooting the phone does seem to work but should not be necessary.

The behavior, more precisely, seems to be :

Works fine on bootup and initial connection to WiFi. When phone sleeps awhile, and is then reactivated, the WiFi connection constantly drops and reconnects. A reboot of the phone will once again stabilize it.

Will try factory reset.

Updates are known in android land to sometimes cause problems. With any android device, I would recommend a factory data reset after the update. Installing 2,2 over 2.1 imo is a bad idea. Same thing happened with plenty of droid eris, moto droid and incredibles.

Unfortunately, the factory reset did nothing but wipe my data. The phone still sits there and stupidly connects, drops, connects, drops over and over. I will call Verizon tomorrow.

I would recommend that anyone having this problem call Verizon - only with enough calls will it become a known issue on Verizon's radar.

Oh well, these things happen. How I feel about it will, of course, depend on the experience I have with Verizon customer service tomorrow.

Someone elsewhere suggested setting security settings on WAP to AES only (not AES/TKIP) but this has had no effect on my experience, but I'll leave it here for people to try.

What do you have the power mode set on, the NightTime and Maximum Battery Saver mode both report that the Wifi and data connections will automatically disconnect to conserve power when connection is inactive after a short time.. Try the Performance Mode or try customizing your own profile and see if this helps.
