Android 2.2... where are you?

Once again I called Big Red to ask when I can expect the FroYo update to my Droid X and as usual, they don't have the first clue. Today they said its in process which I guess is better than the usual answer of I don't know.

This OTA update is nonsense. Why can't they take a page out of Apple's playbook and put the update on the web for installation to the handset or put it in the Android Market like Apple does for iOS updates with iTunes.

If the MS Exchange email issue was such a problem, then would it not have been smarter to release the FroYo as an incremental update? Send us what works and then fix what does not. In all honesty, I have no use for MS Exchange email and will be a totally useless feature on my X.

All I know is that I just about ready to take my chances and install the Sapphire Rom.

You can talk bad about the iPhone, but iTunes in wonderful.

I have an iPod touch (which is how I got introduced to touchscreen technology). My phone at the time was an LG VX9900.

I have never had a problem getting a software update for my iPod. I just wish every other phone maker would have learned this lesson from Apple. Apple has its faults, but software distribution is not one of them.

When iOS 4 came out, all I did was plug in my iPod and Apple and a few bucks from my wallet (iPod users have never received free updates like iPhone users do) did the rest.

Big Red / Motorola / Google... take notes please. Android 3.0 better not be a fiasco like 2.2 has been

I think that is the main purpose of the iPhone is to be revolved around itunes. Just think of the iPhone as an iPod/itouch but calling features to it.

You had to pay to update your iPod? Talk about being a sucker and getting ripped off. I have an iTouch and all I did was to plug mine in and voila; free iOS4.

Even Jobs said the update was free during his Keynote thingy. Next time do your research before you spend money mate.

It will come out when it's ready. Seriously your post is filled with inaccuracies. Motorola already said the 2.2 update will be able to be pulled by the user without having to wait for an auto-update. OTA = Over the air, which means you don't have to download a file on your computer, then hook up phone and apply it. So an update available on the Marketplace would still be an OTA update.

I'm glad that you called VZW once again to ask about the update. I'm sure your phone call single handedly speed up the process... I mean seriously people....

Uh yeah I know what an iPhone is.

The obligatory relationship w/ iTunes is widely considered a negative of the iPhone, not a positive. I have this fancy world-changing device, yet I can't sync/update/etc. without plugging it in to my computer? **bleep**. To push an update over-the-air like the Android updates do is the future, not slaving the phone to your computer.

Updating through the computer may be better for some people.I know some android users don't want the update because they want to wait until the glitches get out of the software. The people have to keep tapping the option "update later". I think the notification comes on often to update.
