Why are updates mandatory???? There's so many, and nothing noticably improves. It's infuriating.

Just a few years ago, most smartphone owners were complaining about seeing only one or two system updates in the two years they owned that phone. This schedule left the phones vulnerable to various security problems. Google and the other manufacturers of Android phones agreed to provide monthly updates to keep the phones secure for a minimum of 2 years including providing the Android OS system update over a similar period of time.
