droid x not sending messages to certain numbers

has anyone had this problem. i just recently switched from the original droid and love it and then out of nowhere it would not allow me to text certain people, i keep getting a message saying "message not sent" regardless of if i send it thru the default messaging or thru handcent sms. these persons can text me and initate the conversation but I am not able to text them first and after awhile it does not allow me to write back anymore.

First, since you recently purchased your device if you have not already check and see if the software has been updated. This can be complete through the following steps :

 

• Select Menu
• Select Settings
• Select About Phone
• Select System Updates 

The device will then check for updates and if available you will be advised to install them.

If your device is up to date on software, complete a soft reset. This can be completed through the following steps:

• Power the device off
• Remove the battery
• Allow the battery to remain out of the phone for 10 to 15 seconds
• Re-install the battery and power the device on
