Frank: like everyone else. Id like to know when I will get my 2.2 froyo upgrade and what is the truth regarding no hotspot or tethering on verizon when the phone is quite capable.  
Reymer: What is the model of your phone?

Reymer: The 2.2 update was started to be released on August 2, 2010. Currently it is ongoing.
Reymer: It is our system which randomly sends the update per batch of customers.
Frank: ok.. so it was due to be completed today.  wheres my update and whats the truth regarding the hotspot and tethering
Reymer: We do not have a definite time frame since it is our system taking charge of it.
Reymer: What about the hotspot?
Frank: why are we not getting it on Verizon when we all know that its quite capable as well as the tethering option
Reymer: No. Unfortunately your phone can not be used as a modem.

Frank : ok so you mentioned your system doing the updates  and you dont have a timeframe. So you are telling me you dont know what your own system is doing?  Who does know then?   We are all tired of the lies and the run around and would appreciate a real answer
Reymer: That is the real answer Frank.

Reymer: If we send the update ourselves, we would know when you'll be receiving it.
Frank : Well who can we contact that knows?
Reymer: All customer service representatives do not have a time frame.
Frank : again, someones got to know, who do we contact?
Reymer: There's no way for us to verify that since the system randomly selects the users. Again, randomly selects the users.
Frank : ok.  so you dont know your own system. Amazing.  I will be happy to forward this to the news so they can see Motorola doesn't understand their own systems.  Thank you for your time.

lol.  The CS reps on those chats are just as clueless as the phone reps.  The droid CAN in fact be used as a modem.  This has been documented using the 3rd party apps and the leaked Froyo releases (native USB tethering WORKS fine).  I'm guessing Verizon probably can't figure out how to charge people for usb tethering.  The droid CAN be used as a semi-functional wifi hotspot but the hardware doesn't support it being a true access point like a wireless router.  The wifi tether market apps create an ad-hoc network which isn't supported by ALL wifi-capable devices.  I believe a lot of the Android phones are actually incapable of connecting to an ad-hoc network.  It's a double edged sword from Verizon's standpoint as they could have included some sort of wifi tethering option but they'd just get a bunch of angry customers calling in asking why it doesn't work with everything.
