Anybody else have an issue with the search button not working on the phone (actual hardware button on phone)? Nothing at all happens. Is there a setting somewhere?

It appears that you might have a faulty button. When you press it, a search line should appear. If not, I'd go visit my nearest Verizon store for a possible replacement.
