Random Data Usage linked to dying phone.

I've been having issues with my phone. The battery has been dying after a couple hours and I couldnt figure out why.

I tired everything, took it to verizon and they told me I had water damage. However, when I looked at this months data usage, it skyrocketed. Im at 4 gbs with of data usage.

When I look at my statement, it says the most random **bleep**. I downloaded something around 300 mbs at 4:30 am? I dont remember using any of this data and now believe its some app.

I've deleted all the apps I;ve installed, but am still having this issue? Anyone else have this problem?

I had to order a new phone, but I think its pretty bull that verizon simply told me I had water damage.

There is a small "indicator" on the phone inside the battery compartment that changes color if the phone has been subjected to water, so if Verizon said there was water damage, there most likely was.

Regarding the data usage, I have no idea what may be going on. Hopefully, the new phone will clear that up.

+1 I agree with this responce, this is how they identify water damage, you can check the sticker on battery and under battery on phone to verify this...

Now as for the data usag, did you sideload any apps and did you make sure to verify what the apps was asking to access? Also have you gave thought to a hard rest?

Try shutting off your phone, then pulling your battery for about 20 sec (soft reset). If this doesn't work, you may be stuck doing a hard reset (as Wildman suggested). Unfortunately, this will clear all settings, apps and data from your phone (SD card should be ok, but I would back it up just in case).

They didnt check both indicators. One indicator was fine and the other indicatior was white, with a pink dot. From there I was told I had water damage.

I did some research on that and it turns out, the phone design caused the sticker on the battery to turn pink. The sticker on the battery falls right on top of a piece of rubber to support the battery. Other people have had this issue to.

On my new phone that I had to unforunately order, they have fixed that issue, by moving the piece of rubber to the edge.

They also told me my charging slot was white/sliver, indcating water damage. I beleive the charging slot for all droid x's are that color.

I got charged $50 [insurance phone] because some lady was rushing to go on her lunch break and didnt even trobuleshoot my phone. Just looked at the battery and said "Water damange, sorry cant help you, call insurance".

Here are some tips to extend the battery life for your device:

Stop Running Applications

From the home screen, touch the applications tab(located at the bottom of the display).
Touch Settings.
Touch Applications.
Touch Running services.
Touch a service.
The service depicted below is only an example.
Touch Stop.

Bluetooth On/Off

From the home screen, touch the applications tab(located at the bottom of the display).
Touch Settings.
Touch Wireless & networks.
Touch Bluetooth.
Enabled when a green check mark is present.

Display Settings

From the home screen, select the applications tab(located at the bottom of the display).
Select Settings.
Select Display.

GPS Location

From the home screen, touch the applications tab(located at the bottom of the display).
Touch Settings.
Touch Location & security.
Touch Use GPS satellites.

Wifi On/Off

From the home screen, touch the applications tab(located at the bottom of the display).

Touch Wireless & networks.
Touch Wi-Fi.

Vibrate Mode

From the home screen, select the applications tab(located at the bottom of the display).
Select Settings.
Select Sound.
Select Vibrate.

Always
Never
Only in Silent mode
Only when not in Silent mode

Motorola has a "Power Control" widget to give easy access to several settings.
