Got a new notebook computer that has 64 bit operating system, surprise V Cast Media Manager won't work. Anyone know when an update will occur. At present I have no way of backing up my phone or using V Cast Media Manager. Suggestions welcomed.
Will
Hello! This is Noah with Verizon Wireless. Hope you are having a great day!
The System Requirements for the V Cast Media Manager are below:
Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 (Service Pack 3 recommended) or Windows Vista®
Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with Service Pack 1 (certified for 32-bit Windows
XP, 32-bit, and 64-bit Windows Vista)
Internet Explorer 6.0 or later
1GHz processor or greater
512MB RAM or more
200MB of free hard disk space
Screen resolution of 1024x576 with 16-bit color or greater
QuickTime 7 or later
A Broadband internet connection is required to access the V CAST Media Store.
I apologize but currently there is no information on the release of an update for the V Cast Media Manager software. I can only recommend directly copying media like music to the phone by after mounting the device that is connected to the computer via the usb cable.
Thanks for the comment, the problem is that the app will not install after the download. The software or computer senses that it is a 64bit computer and aborts the installation. So there is never an opportunity to run the software in compatibility mode.
Just adding my name to the list. I'm happy with my Incredible, but am pretty shocked to discover that Verizon is only offering 32 bit support. Please get in the game, Verizon. If you're stuck on 32 bit you'd might as well be the news from two years ago.
Almost all new laptops with Win7 are 64 bit machines. None of the solutions that have been suggested will work.
Media Manager is the only way I know how to transfer pictures and music to and from my computer. Although I see the phone, I do not see a useable folder that the phone will recognize. Any help would be appreciated. I am mostly concerned with pictures, I do not necessarily need to use the phone for music.
I do not see the Sim Card, that is the problem that I stated earlier. I see no files that the phone can use. I really appreciate your input.
Noah, Windows 7 has been out for almost a year. Tell the Powers That Be that more and more people converting to 7 will be expecting major corporations that provide communications services to get with the program.
I experienced the same problems as willjam, et al., and there are no compatibility tricks that work. Plugging the device into a computer without the V Cast Media Manager drivers is useless; it sees something there but even manually trying to add the device is a dead end.
My computer at work is XP, and I didn't need to be an administrator to install it. I hope you have the same availability and authorizations, because that's your only choice at present.
The easiest way is to get a adaptor for your phone so can transfer pictures to and from your phone and computer adaptors are any where from 10.00 to 15.00 dollars if your computer is not recognizing the phone.
Unfortunately, this is not a viable option either. I have a card reader that would I think read the sim card. I will not try this because two problems exist with this, 1) having to take the phone apart every time you want to do an update and secondly, 2) the file system used by the phone (CDFS) and computer (NTFS) are not the same which risk making the data on card unreadable when the data is saved by the computer and returned to the phone.
Also, the problem is not Win7 32 bit, it Win7 64 bit that the software does not work. I have a 32 bit Win7 system that V Cast work with. What is needed is a 64bit version on the software.
willjam
Thanks Ann,
My bad -- on the SIM card, I will try this. However, I still do not like having to take the phone apart to read the card. But if this works then it better that what I have now.
I'm having this issue with a new Droid X and Vista 64 bit. Installation was aborted b/c of the 64 bit system. I've tried making my own folders for music, etc. on the SD card, but I don't know where to find them on my phone. When I go to the "music" area they're not there. Suggestions?
Dixie, as you have read here, there are no viable solutions for Windows 64bit operating systems. Personnally, I do not believe this problem has been properly elevated to get a solution. There is only one reply from a Verizon rep which did not offer a viable fix for this problem. IMOP the other replies do not offer a good work around for this issue.
Like you I also have problems finding the folders on the phone. I do not see where to access the file manaager to view contents of folders.
yes it is lame that V Cast does not work on 64 bit machines. here are a couple of work arounds.
1) use file manager on your PC and open the drive that points to your phone. On my machine it is "Removable Disk H". You can then create directories and add music and photos.
2) for a user interface download DoubleTwist. It is a free app that loads on your PC and runs a bit like Itunes. get it here: http://www.doubletwist.com/
Verizon needs to step up their software development and get into the 64 bit market or get left in the dust with V Cast.
That just plain and simply bites!
I got my HTC android for work. My work computer is Windows 7 enterprise with 64 bit encryption. If I can't sync my phone with my pc then my phone is worhtless, therefore my verizon service is worthless.
Now I only wished I had went with the iPhone and AT&T
I will be sure to send out a memo to our 2000 plus employees not to get a Droid with the Verizon service because they will not work on our operating system.
Oops double posted! Please see below. :-P
There are other post that suggests using the device like a disk drive to add files. This works and is an option, but it not the way using the device to viewing and adding files as it was intended. Verizon needs to respond whether they intend to have a 64-bit version of V-Cast.
I know mine works like a drive. But just a work around does not mean that it functions like it is supposed to. At least with the iPhone, you have iTunes that is compatible with Win7. That is where VZW and Google will get left behind the iPhone.
Having read through most of the many posts on this subject: I have the strange sensation of shouting these words into a dark cave. The only response back will be the faint echo of my words bouncing down an empty chamber for there is nobody there to hear it. HEY GREAT VOID; WE HAVE A PROBLEM HERE!
C’mon Noah…We don’t need to see the system requirements. We need Verizon to get with the program!
This may seem like a “small thing” to you folks at Verizon but I’ve been looking for an excuse to move my family over to AT&T so that we can sink our teeth into the iPhone 4….this just may be the excuse that I need….It’s even worth paying the early termination fee!
Sincerely
Customer Since 1995
Well, Verizon is rolling out some more VCast crapware for everyone (that I am sure you won't be able to delete), so maybe they will get around to putting out software that works for PCs built in the last two years.

My most angry times almost invariably have something to do with Verizon!! how is that?
I'm livid... you mean I just paid all this money for this phone (not to mention the flipping $30 data fee per month) & I can't even put my music on it because the program is built for old crappy computers? Yelling at the moderators of this forum will not make me feel better! I want to knock some sense into whatever fat dude in a suit made this decision!!! (& I bet you do too, mods..)
Maybe you have good coverage & products, but your customer sevice invariably SUCKS. we're people, you ......!!!!!!!!!!!! Start treating us like we are!
{please keep your posts courteous-Thanks!}
I just got my phone in today. I too was surprised that V cast does not work with 64 bit machines. Noah's specs showed that it will work with Vista 64 bit. I was able to get it to work with my Windows 7 Ultimate machine only by using the XP mode feature. So if you have Windows 7 pro or ultimate you should be able to install XP mode and attach the usb device to this. It is a work around but it does work.

So far the Incredible is ..well...incredible
but the V cast is lacking
Wow, this is awesome. 1998 called and wants its media manager back.
My laptop won't install the VZW media manager, and my Droid X keeps taking me AUTOMATICALLY to the download page every time I connect it. Phenomenal planning, Big Red.
I know it doesn't work on my Mac. Let's hope with the iPad and possibly more Apple products on the way, you get a little more diversified in your program's ability.
Start using google
Remove the data card (take the phone cover off)
Insert it into your computer using a size adaptor. Drag files to card.
