after update apps start by themselves after being killed

Yes, those 3 are the questionable ones. I want to know:

1) Why do they need to start (are they tracking/recording/monitoring something)

2) What starts them, and how.

3) Why does Verizon allow this questionable behavior.

I have the same problem and it kills battery life instead of saving it. Wasn't that the point of the task killer...??? Seriously, how much money did I pay and keep paying for something that isn't working correctly. Sounds like someone needs to get new IT geeks and get this crap fixed NOW!!!

In the 2.2 (Froyo) update, ATK's are not needed. Google's developers have created the Android OS to close applications that are not being used once memory levels/resources get low enough. ***Many ATK's are going to have the same issue (killing an application, and it restarting itself). The Froyo (2.2) update had caused this to happen with the ATK's however; this is working as it was designed.

Morgan, you just contradicted yourself. If they designed it so that we do not have to have ATK's, then why do we still have apps running that we do not want to. Apparentaly, you must know what everybody is complaining about.

Try closing the Voicemail app and watch your drop your connection as the Dialer, and a few other apps share the same library and during that time Voicemail app is the one actually using that library. You have to look at the processes not the RAM...

I don't know, but is Navigator using a large amount of resources??? I explained how it works. How which program determines where to find a process, I have no idea.

I looked at my active list, VZ Navigation nor skype is running. Most I see are things I have opened today as I had to reprogram and load everything again.

I wish I could find an app I had prior to my phone taking a dive, it had an option to see memory usage by program. But I can no longer find the app.

There just does not seem to be any memory issues to me, so I do not worry about it.

Having the same problem - this phone is worse than having a dog - it constantly needs to be babysat to keep the battery from draining. I am ready to go back to my old Q if this doesn't get fixed soon. It is so disappointing.

No I implying regardless of what that task manager says. Something IS NOT runnning if it has 0 processes. If you force close the app it causes more problems and drains your battery as it makes more processes to begin with. It's the same thing like a daemon.

I will wait for the day when you system becomes unstable enough, and your screen goes unresponsive with a blackscreen where you have to pull the battery out. Then you will blame the device like most people do.

Actually yes earlier you said Linux/OSX gives you an option to close an application. I am pointing out Android gives you 2 ways to close an application without a TK.

Tidbits, as many of us keep saying (over and over) the issue isn't task killers or which way(s) exist to kill a task. The issue is the apps (skype, vz nav, amazon mp3) that auto-start under various situations. Look at the title of this forum thread if there is any doubt or confusion on your part.

Those apps are NOT running that's the deal. They have 0 processes. The reason WHY they look like they are there is because THEY SHARE Something with something is runnning. AS the example Dialer, VoiceMail, Skype and TextMessaging. You assuming they are autostarting, but they have 0 processes even if you close them. Task Killers are confusing you and making you think they are "running" and taking up battery when they are doing nothing.

Nevermind I will let you guys believe what you believe, and keep thinking the windows multitasking way. I think you guys would have a valid complaint if you were using a Windows Mobile device.

You both aren't understanding the situation. If you force kill VZ Nav, it will not show up as a process. But as soon as you receive a sms/txt...guess what, VZ Nav starts showing up as a process. Again, this isn't about task killers nor process counts. It is everything about auto-starting apps based on an unrelated action on the phone.

My last answer. The task killer killed the "app" with 0 processes, but the cache that the OS has says it should be there. Since it is not there the OS puts it back. As I said there are ways to close the APP without the TK and doing it correctly, and if you should know what they are.

Again, forget about the task killer, it's not part of the equation. Go to Settings, Applications, Manage, Running, and find VZ Nav and force close it. Wait for an sms/txt message, then go back to Running tasks and see VZ Nav running again.

Arghhh, been having the same problems, how do we fix it??? My battery will not even last an entire work day!!

Bottom line is since the update the battery life has tanked significantly, my phone will now randomly jump from screen to screen, and the e-mail will jump all over the place, the internet seems slower (maybe not but seems this way and NOT faster). My weatherbug widget app takes for ever to load when starting up, if it loads at all, and if it does, it is not displaying all the information.

Can you switch back to 2.1?

Yeah the ones in the background that spontaneously start, and i even did a hard restart with no luck. and good luck trying to get thru to tech support. yeah right

YES you will see them as if they are running. THEY ARE NOT. Get past your Windows mentality. THIS IS DIFFERENT. And I agree tech support is a crap shoot. But try calling during the early AM 8-11, and hope you get Debra from Minnesota. She IS awesome.

So the Android developers named the manage applications tab "Running", but we are to believe you when you say that doesn't mean they are running. Hogwash.

As I said if an app uses the same "library" it will appear on that list, but isn't necessarily running. It still has 0 processes. It's like a daemon which uses 0 processing power until you invoke it. Android uses resourses differently than windows.

the "running" tab doesn't show all processes or even system apps. As I said before try closing all the system apps except for critical ones if you know what they are. Then open dialer and you will see a lot of apps "running" They all share something in common and it "appears" to be running but are not and if you look at the processes only the dialer will have processes and the rest will be at 0.
