This has been happening for months now. I put my phone into airplane mode multiple times per day, because I have to keep it in a metal locker while I'm in my office, and I don't want to drain the battery while it searches for a signal.
When I take it out of airplane mode, I will often get a 4G LTE connection with 4 or more bars, but the network activity arrows are solid white in both directions, and my internet connection crawls. Earlier today my Chrome browser never got out of Offline mode, and told me "No internet connection" at the top of the app. I have a plan that supposedly gives me "unlimited high-speed data that isn't slowed based on how much data [I] use". The only time this seems to work well is when I'm lucky enough to get on a 5G connection.
