WiFi calling will not work in Airplane mode. It used to work but now it says to take off of Airplane mode. Why would that be?

When you have Airplane Mode active, have you tried turning WiFi on? I have a moto z4 and WiFi calling works when WiFi is ON and my phone is in Airplane Mode. Maybe it is different with the Google Pixel.
