After 2.2.340 I did a a factory reset....

and now it is working much better. Before reset, I ran update and had been getting random reboots all day yesterday. I decided to do factory reset this morning and so far no reboots. Also, the Android Market looks MUCH nicer after I reset phone. The only problem I ran in to was when the automatic redownloading of all my apps took place. It seems I had to keep going in an push along the installs. Took awhile but well worth it.

This is my thought for the longest time, I do not believe that a OS upgrade should be placed over a device that has been already modified because the software was tested on a clean image of the OS because there is no way to test upgrade on the large amount of customized devices that it will go on.... I still believe mostly all issues experianced is related to the previous software that has been added that has modified the software. When you reset and started over you will avoid a number of the issues that been reported in my opinion.

I so don't want to do this but I think I have no choice seeing that my phone stopped working after the OS upgrade. pfft not a happy camper..

Invest into MyBackup appfrom market, this make a reset less painful, I can restore and be backup in 10 or 15 minutes... Just a suggestion that works for me.

Ok, so if I reset, does my phone go back to when I got it or is it loaded with the newest OS? My original OS didn't include the Flash player back in July, 2010.

This rebooting thing is a nuisance, involves many phones based on my browsing this and other DroidX forum sites and deserves a Verizon/Motorola action plan or a class action law suite! We all know a vendor's response is always better than a legal battle. Hope they can help us consumers out, in this case.

I know wildman posted his comment to me before as I did the update in Dec and have had no issues and I did not do a factory reset. It makes sense to avoid any issues. One thing that I don't understand is why force the update without any info stating this is the best action to take if indeed this will solve issues?

While speaking with a Verizon CSR (one of the many times), I was told that in a perfect world each phone owner would/should perform a factory reset and format the SD card BEFORE installing any update.

Otherwise, it's a crapshoot as to whether the update will cause conflicts.

The reason that this isn't "common knowledge" is because "most phone owners lack the technical knowledge and experience to do it" and (in my opinion) it's probably easier just to deal with those having issues with the update, rather than the nightmare of walking millions of customers through the reset process.

spanky, I was told by a Verizon CSR to download "fresh" apps after a reset. That rules out the possibility of a corrupted backed-up app being re-installed and reintroducing the same problem.

I back my apps up with Astro File Manager (just one of its many functions). But, that is just to avoid writing them all down. I don't actually re-install them from Astro.
