The Guide's Inaccuracies Continue

The guide is wrong where your guide provider is simply not doing its job not only when it comes to your guide but the guide of other companies too. The guide provider that you have does the at&t guide too where their guide is wrong plus your guide provider is also responsible for e-guide tv which is the guide that hotels use and they also provide a guide for an online guide company called titan tv. According to titan tv both at&t and verizon have the same guide data issues where at&t has shows listed on networks like live with kelly listed as a cbs show when it is a abc show. You do not have a problem with that specific program but there are channels on your guide that are wrong where only tv guide's website has the guide accurate while your boxes are not up to date with the latest schedules. Channel 108 abc news now is wrong where things rarely match plus you have a show called what's the buzz on 108 listed 4 times a day which is listed as a texas travel show but that description is from a local houston texas affiliate and not the description of the actual show which is about celebrity news. The show is described as a show that has journalist roseann rogers showing you places in houston texas when that is wrong. You can google her name to see that she had a show where she was referred to as the buzz lady but she is not affiliated with abc news now at all so where you are pulling that data from i have no idea. Other things that do not match is channel 229 which becomes a korean channel from 5pm-3am but the guide indicates that it is from 8pm-12am. Cnn chanel 100 on the weekends is often wrong plus the 2am show erin burnett outfront is not listed. Msnbc has a show at 5am called first look where the description of that show is the description of the bloomberg tv show called first look at 12am where the bloomberg one is about the asian stock market while the msnbc one is about your first look at the news. Cnn headline news channel 101 often runs weekend shows during the week where on thursdays you have a weekend lineup running usually and the weekends have crime shows on not programs like showbiz tonight which is listed wrongly on sunday at 11pm. Thursday morning has had weekend express listed wrongly from 7am-12pm and the show that should be on is the one that is listed wrongly as being from 6am-7am. Some other issues that exist is that 1704 tv chile does not match what the guide says should be there and the same goes for 1620 plus channels 1509,1548,1781 have no schedules. 1540 cnn espanol has a 1 hour show that is on at 11am but it is listed as a 45 minute show plus the 1pm show escenario on thursday is not there. Channel 474 has a show called planeta feroz which is about animals not people who survived natural disaters as the guide has it described and channel 274 on the weekends is often wrong. Encore espanol 363 should have an all spanish audio all the time but it does not. Channel 1662 telehit has live concerts on a show called telehit live on thursdays at 10:30pm but they are not listed on the guide and channel 1664 has had a concert series listed on the weekends that it claims is on saturdays on at 7am, 1pm, 9pm that does not exist. There are also channels that no longer exist like 394 and 894 but they are still there along with channel 466. Channel 71 is espn classic but 571 hd is espn buzzer beater which is odd because normally the 500 version of a channel is the hd one of a channel like channel 71. Your guide provider needs be notified about these issues so that people can have an accurate up to date guide.

Verizon's joke of a guide provider continues to be wrong where you have things appearing on the guide on channels that do not have what is listed there. BET had a movie carlito's way listed on there last night at 10pm for 2 hrs when in fact it was a completely different movie called hair show. Now BET has carlito's way listed again on there today from 1pm-3pm where it will not match and my guess is that it will also be that same movie from last night that was there called hair show. Channel 1583 which is a soap opera channel called passiones has shows listed there that do not appear but instead what you have are paid programming spots instead. At 10am on 1583 it is always some sort of beauty product hour when the guide has a show called decisiones listed there. On 274 on sundays there is a show listed at 9pm called mujeres asesinas which is about female killers but instead what is there is a travel show. Abc news now channel 108 is often wrong where a show that is on there called what's the buzz is not a houston texas travel show as the guide indicates but instead it is a celebrity news show. 1549 is wrong in the mornings from monday to wednesday where a morning show from peru should be from 5:30am-9:30am followed by a show from venezuela that is from 9:30am-11:30am. Starting next week the guide will have the first show listed wrongly as 6:30am-10:30am monday through wednesday where you will end up missing the first hour of that show. Thursday and friday will be listed correctly. There are still no schedules for channels 1509, 1548, and 1781 where no one can set up anything to tape from those channels. The late at night show that should be on cnn erin burnett outfront at 2am is missing, the weekends on cnn are wrong along with the weekends on cnn espanol plus the morning show on cnn espanol channel 1540 at 11am should be listed from 11am-12pm but it is listed as being from 11:15am-12pm which means that you miss the first 15 minutes of it. A movie called thirst continues to be listed as a korean vampire movie when in fact it is an american movie plus there is currently no logo for channel 579 msg 2 hd which is listed on the guide as msg hd 2. MNET 229 has paid programming there also instead of programs so it is another channel that is a little tricky to tape off of where the 7am hour is always paid programming. Msnbc's 5am show is a show that is about your first look at the news but instead it is described as a european show that is about the asian market. Please fix these issues and try to weed out any glitches that could be throwing off the guide. Now i know that the excuse will be that you guys just put up whatever it is that your provider is giving you and that may be the problem in the first place as many of the online guide providers have your guide correct while what is on your boxes is often incorrect. If you do not listen to paying customers who actually want an up to date guide then that makes you no different than the cable companies.

Fios 1 continues to list things like ny giants football highlight shows throughout the week plus there are things listed on that channel like sporting events that are not there along with fios 1 news shows not appearing as they should. V-ME channel 474 is also wrong on sundays as there is no wide angle bill moyers show on at 4pm as the guide claims plus the 9pm monday through thursday show is not there at all. It should be a mini-series but instead there is something else listed there. Channel 1583 continues to list programs that are not there but instead what is on there are paid programming shows. At the 7am,8am,10am and countless other moments of the day there are really infomercials there instead of the programs that are listed on the guide. Channel 1549 is often wrong on the weekends where the saturday night 10:30pm show is wrong along with the 1-3am show on monday plus the 8am om sunday. Cnn espanol 1540 has an 11am show that is not listed there correctly but instead it is listed as an 11:15am show when it is a 11am-12pm show 5 days a week. Cnn channel 100 has the wrong programs listed on the weekends plus their 5am-7am on tuesday is listed as 5am-6am while the next show which should be 7am-9am is listed as 6am-9am. Clark howard is not on channel 101 on thursdays at 4pm he is only on weekends and the showbiz tonight show that is listed at 4:10am on thursday is a 1 hour show not a half hour show followed by a mystery crime show. Once again let me remind you that neither 1509, 1548, or 1781 have no schedules at all while every other provider that is out there does have a schedule for those channels. There are no channels to watch on channel 394 or 894 but they are still listed on the guide. I also see that you are going to drop the funimation channel but what is very interesting is that you have the boomerang channel with the same definiton, same content, same language all playing at the same time on channels 258, 1724, 1725. Three channels with the same exact content, defintion and language verizon? That has to be a mistake as you guys are paying for the same exact channel to take up three different channel spots on the guide. Channel 108 abc news now still has a show called what's the buzz wrongly listed as a houston texas travel show when in fact it is a celebrity news show where your guide is pulling that data from a local houston texas affilate not from abc news now. There is also no sd version of mega tv channel 466 so why there is a message there claiming to have an hd version of it when there never was an hd version of it plus there is no longer an sd version of it is a mystery to me. Then there is the matter of the msg sports channel logos which do not match the channels that they are listed for on the guide. Msg 2 channel 79 has an msg logo not the msg 2 logo. Channel 81 msg plus 2 has the msg plus logo. Msg 2 hd channel 579 has the logo that should be on chanel 79 the sd version of it and channel 580 has the msg hd logo when in fact it is msg plus hd.

The fact that the Guide has inaccurate data is nothing new to those of us who have had FiOS TV for a while (6+ years in my case). Keep in mind that this Verizon site is very clearly labeled with:

"The Verizon Community Forums are where customers help other customers. If you need assistance for specific Verizon account issues, please contact us."

If you are addressing your comments to Verizon I think you are wasting your time. The Guide data is provided by a company named FYI television, Inc. in Grand Prairie, TX. They currently still list Verizon as a client on their website, you might want to contact them directly (I did once, I live 20 miles from them, never got any response).

However, if you are going to continue these posts, I strongly suggest you invest a few extra minutes and do some simple formatting: put each error on a separate line preferably separated by a blank line, maybe bullet or number them, etc. I have seen I don't know how many of your posts and I freely admit I have never read a single one, I am just not going to waste my time trying to figure out what channels and content you are referring to buried in those seemingly endless paragraphs.

I also suggest you update your profile with your location (city and state, or at least VHO if you don't want people to know what city and state) because the channel assignments are different in different areas of the country.

Just a few suggestions....and I do agree with your general premise that the quality of the Guide data is poor and needs to be improved, although it does seem to be somewhat better now than it was a few years ago, at least based on what I see on the channels I watch.

Thanks justin. I too have contacted FYI television where i have spoken to the manager and supervisor directly of the 70 techs whose name is jay where he oversees all of those techs to make sure that verizon's guide along with a bunch of other companies' guides are up to date where i have been working with FYI for more than six months all by myself to try to get the guide corrected along with them. The office of the CEO of verizon has given me the direct contact information of the techs who are in that department whose job it is to make sure that the guide data is up to date and accurate so it has gotten better much to the benefit of the customer where i have also received a lot of major credits to my account for what i have been doing. They can only do so much though so that is why i try to let the people who read these forums and have contact with that department to please pass on what i mention on here as being an issue on to them so that they can make the necessary changes. Now that the guide has been getting better i would like to think that is in part because of my efforts where i have put verizon in touch with people who work at the actual channels that i have contacted where i have gotten them to send out their latest schedules plus i pointed out to them there was some sort of a disconnect between FYI and verizon where things were not getting corrected even though tickets were being created to point out the issues that do exist. Verizon is currently looking at the software that it uses that is throwing off a lot of the data that is on the guide plus it is also testing out the 1.91 IMG in the lab right now that will be released at some point this year. There are also some other things that they are seeking to incorporate to try to address these issues where it will be to the benefit of the customer but what i will say right now is that i know a lot more than most people about these issues which includes verizon employees who are reading these forums where i would appreciate it if they can pass on the stuff that i mention on here because they are problems that need to be fixed. Some of them have been passing it on while others are not aware of the fact that there are serious issues with the guide that over time have gotten better. My primary focus has been on the spanish channels where at one point about 90% of it was wrong and that is not an exaggeration but it has gotten better but hopefully in time all that i have mentioned on here along with what they are working on will finally correct all of the guide data issues that exist. Other channels on the guide have gotten better too because of all of this as it is now seen as a national issue because they found out that it is not just affecting just a region or two but the entire country. The funny part about it is that i may never end up meeting a lot of the people who are out there who have fios for their tv but they will end up benefiting from my efforts that will result in their guides being a lot more accurate and up to date even if they do not know about the things that i have done.

I have to agree with Justin. I tried but just can't read through your run on paragraphs with no breaks to divide ideas / specifics.

While you probably have some valid points (and yes the guide info has been crap for a long time - subscriber for 5+ years) you will never get the majority of people to even read your posts without some clear formatting.

BTW - this actually has nothing to do with 1he 1.9 upgrade - like I said earlier been happening for as long as I can remeber and Verizon just doesn't (or won't) listen and do anything to rectify.

actually based on feedback we reformatted the feeds for sports and popular series programming so the listings are more complete. sometimes some data was getting jammed in the pipes and not making it to the set tops; think we have stopped that from happening.

so we are listening.

I've long since stopped even trying to report guide inaccuracies (spitting in the wind comes to mind as equally useful) and I'm not just talking sporting events. As recently as a few months ago I recorded what was listed as the remake version of The Manchurain Candidate only to find it was actually the 1950's black and white version (an excellent movie which I have seen many times, but not what I thought I was recording). There are many other instances but I can't recall the specifics well enough to detail.

Yes, the guide has gotten a little better in the past couple of months but really has a long way to go to get the listings right. For example, when a show is first tagged as "new" and is rerun 3 hours later, the description of the same show is often worded different. Why? Top Gear descriptions for the British show on the BBC America and the American show on the History Ch. often get listed with the America cast when it's the British show. I could go on and on.

We have been told for the last year this is being worked on. Mistakes are always noticed at lot more because accuracy should be taken for granted, although probably will never be prefect.

Please keep working on getting the accuracy right.

Once again verizon there are still major issues that exist with the data that is on the guide where you have a channel like aym sports channel 1535 where nothing on that channel matches. The guide will have one sporting event listed when in fact it is another and i am not talking about the wrong teams being listed on there. I am talking about completely different sporting events from what the guide indicates should be there. Right now what is listed is a race car driving show when in fact it is soccer. When soccer is listed it is volleyball and when basketball should be there it is baseball. Channel 474 has been wrong for a while now where monday through thursday what should be there is a show called malaria but instead what is listed is estellares vme. On sunday on channel 474 at 4pm it really should be a program called mek 8. Abc news now channel 108 continues to have the wrong description for a show called what's the buzz that is on at 1:15pm and on at 7pm that is a show that is about celebrity news not a texas travel show as it claims. The cnn espanol channel 1540 show is not there at 11am as it should be 5 days a week and a lot of the programs that are on channel 1583 throughout the day are paid programming shows not the shows that they claim they are. Channel 1512, 1513, and 1536 often do not match either. 1509, 1548 amd 1781 still have no schedules on there to tape off of where i know that they want people to watch their content but people can not because verizon has yet to put up the schedules even though those channels were added last year. The excuse of verizon just putting up whatever it is that the channel has provided you with is bogus because tv guide, zap 2 it and a bunch of other providers online have your schedule correct. I see that someone has been getting some of the things that i have mentioned on here fixed so if you can continue to do that i along with a lot of other people who are having similar issues with the guide can finally start to enjoy what you have to offer with your fios tv. The fact that you guys have formed a committee where network techs are looking at this issue plus the fact that you are working with the providers while also monitoring what is affecting the network that throws off the data while looking at the software that you use for fios is evidence of the fact that this is a known issue that is being worked on but in the meantime if you could pass on these issues i would appreciate it. These are simple things that you can assist people with as i have been also doing what i can to get things corrected for people but there is only so much that one person can do. The last thing that i want to mention is that channel 12 telemundo's 4pm show is a judge deciding court cases show not a cop show so please correct it.

Yes i have Hubrisnxs. The second phone number that you listed is the direct contact number for the person who is the manager at FYI who oversees a team of at least 70 techs where if someone were to call that number it is the number for his office in grand prarie texas where he has made some corrections for me when i have contacted him as he has passed that on to his team. Verizon's guide problems are not just limited to Verizon as AT&T is also having the same issues as i know people who have U-Verse who are having the same exact issues as i am having with the Fios guide because FYI also does the AT&T guide too. Ideally it should be verizon's people in the data management group at FNOC/VNOC in virginia where their team of engineers/techs should be doing this but they are a team that pride themselves on being so secretive that many of verizon's employees who are in the same exact builiding in virginia do not know that they exist. Some do and they can pass a lot of the issues that exist on to that group so i and a lot of other people can actually get what it is that we are paying for where part of that includes an accurate up to date guide. I have spoken to people in that group too even though they do not like to give out their phone numbers i have some of them because they contacted me and told me to contact them anytime but the issues are so profound that one or two people can not correct it all. When these matters are brought to their attention you would think that they would want to fix these problems but as many of them have said to me before there is a lot of red tape involved when it comes to trying to get things like this corrected. I got a hold of both the FYI and Verizon CEOS where they are aware of these problems where i am working with people who are very close to them but as i have said before it is a problem that goes beyond just making a few phone calls or sending out emails. They are aware of these issues and have created a committee to try to get at this issue but the problem with that is that you also have to keep them updated as to what is still an onging issue, new issue or what has been resolved where a lot of customers have pretty much thrown their hands up in the air and have given up or are about to give up so that they can go with another provider since more problems continue to pop up everyday while they have yet to fix many of the issues that currently exist. The guide has gotten better because of my efforts although people would not know that unless they were to read any of the comments about this issue that i have made on here even though for a long time verizon was not even willing to acknowledge it as an issue where network techs who i have spoken to have asked me to keep them updated via the forums about this ongoing problem but that is all predicated on whether some of the verizon employees who read these comments are even aware of that network data group that i mentioned so the issues that are brought to their attention can be passed on to that data group so they can make the corrections that will hopefully not revert back to being issues again like they have in the past and will remain correct on the guide. It's not about perfection, but when you have entire channels that are wrong it is verizon's responsibility to get these problems resolved especially when they take over neighborhoods to become the sole provider to people in those areas.

I agree with you on the guide data quality and inconsistencies. I continually complain to contacts I have within Verizon and kept getting promises of improvement. And to some extent I agree. But there are problems that need to be addressed.

We all know that Verizon uses and appears to be married to FYI Television. They provide nice trivia but what good is it if the program is wrong or worse, not even in the guide. I'd like them to use Tribune Media but that will not happen. Tribune seems to have more accuracy but less in the trivia. I'd rather have accuracy than trivia.

I'm willing to help get the guide data correct but not sure how much more you or I can do alone. We need many more concerned individuals to get involved. If they really cared.

I absolutely agree with you nascar as i have been saying this for a very long time even before verizon chose to try to address this issue. The problems preceded me but i have gone a long way to try to get this matter resolved to actually find a way that is much easier than the method that they currently have. For many years they would not acknowledge it as an issue but then finally after they had sent a lot of techs to my home over the years where they checked my fios set up where they found nothing wrong with it they still changed the equipment anyway but finally realized that this was not an isolated issue and that they were wasting their time sending people out. I finally was contacted by one of those people in that network data group in virginia who gave me his personal info which includes interacting with him via facebook where we have worked together but it is a task that goes beyond just a few people trying to get at the matter. I also have the contact info of some other people in that group who contacted me and i am currently working with people who are very close to the ceo of verizon to try to get this matter corrected little by little.Tickets that get created about this issue get into the network tech's hands then they pass it on to the people in virginia who could pass it on to that group where fyi has to make a judgement call as to whether they want to make the corrections or not. The second phone number that someone posted on here is the number of the guy who makes the decisions as to whether things should get corrected by fyi or not where i have spoken to him often but it really does not get at the heart of the matter which is way bigger than most people are aware of. Verizon's ceo (who lives in new jersey but works in new york) and fyi's ceo know about this matter but not much has been done about it. My suggestion to everyone who have these issues is that we should start an open thread that will remain open just like the funimation thread where people can post their issues with the guide data so that when verizon employees see it they can actually pass it on because any company with that many errors on their guide could only make those changes if they were shamed into doing so. As i said before creating tickets is pointless as they just get added to the pile of tickets that verizon has that their committee looks at where a lot of that is backloaded where they do not know what is still an ongoing issue and what has been resolved. When they get to fix something for someone it may have already been resolved so the assumption is that the guide issues have been fixed if no one is updating them as i am doing. I was curious to know if you are also the same person who goes by the name nascar who posted that info about the 1.91 IMG on dsl reports and if you are could you provide me with some more information as to whether the size of the guide will be bigger with the 1.91 IMG and are new jersey/philladelphia next? The 1.91 IMG update i was told by people at verizon will be the first step in trying to correct this guide problem as they believe that a lot of those bugs that are throwing off the data will get corrected because of it although i am a little skeptical. The reason why this thread is on here by the way is because some verizon employee moved it from another area because she wrongly thought that it belonged on here. Also if you are that same nascar from dsl reports could you put up those screenshots on here too only much bigger for other customers who are not even aware of the fact that the 1.91 IMG roll out has begun?
