Mobile Broadband and Carbonite, among others

I just got a USB760 broadband card and while I'm enjoying it, there needs to be some notices about programs that constantly connect and download or upload data. Apparently, from what I'm reading around here, people need to know that it's not just browsing the internet that uses data uploads or downloads. All of the printer software I've seen lately AUTOMATICALLY and by default check for updates to their software, as well as Windows Update. I was an hour into using my broadband card when it hit me that Carbonite was uploading back-ups to their server, which is what it's supposed to do. However, I've made myself a little note to disable it when I use the mobile broadband service. And there's all sorts of programs and widgets we use that use data. Weather programs, iTunes, Google, you name it. These need to be shut off or disabled when on mobile broadband. Sometimes, it's not easy to find the method to disable these programs. I'm of the opinion that stuff like this should be common sense to the end user. Judging by what I read in this and other user forums, that ain't so. Geri O

I can't imagine using the smaller mobile broadband package, but in my first month I used about half of my 5GB... so I'll wait and watch my usage to see if I need to disable any of the automatic stuff.
