Does anyone know when the Thunderbolt will be released or has a close estimate?

My guess is that you'd still have to get the LTE data plan if you get the thunderbolt regardless of whether or not you're in an LTE market. Roy was just saying that since it is dual mode (CDMA EVDO-Rev A and LTE) that you'd still be able to use the phone for calls and data even if you're not currently in an LTE area.

I called tech support and they told me the thunderbolt will come out end of February.

Do you really think that VZW will wait 4 months after the IPhone to release this LTE phone? The buzz around the forums is shortly after the IPhone.

I am doing quite a bit of research on these new phones since the iPhone has come to the Verizon network. I've been trying to compare and contrast some of the similarities and differences btw the Thunderbolt and the iPhone. The main feature I am interested in is the Face to Face or Video Chat. Can some please explain to me the skype mobile feature on the new Thunderbolt. In fine print it says " Video calls must be made between Verizon 4G LTE devices or 4G WiFi enabled PC." so dose that mean that 1) if I am trying to vido chat someone using another carrier that it wont work (ie AT&T or Sprint)? 2) Are you able to vido chat without using the skype mobile? (for example just calling someone from my contacts with a face-to-face feature?)
3)Is the skype mobile just in place for people who don't have the face to face feature?
Thanks in advance
Yes! Well maybe? not really?
They are giving hints to the Thunderbolt
Here's a link of the process the Thunderbolt is in:

Since Skype is an internet based program, voip, it should not matter what service the other user has. Caveat to that is the 4G network is a 12mbps download and 1mbps upload speeds vs 3G networks with speeds of 1.5mbs download and 0.25 mbps upload. Difference between smooth and choppy.
they said on the news the other day it was reing relased on feb 10 with the iphone. It was on ch3 in cleveland a few days ago
Thanks for the info

I'm sure that if the Thunderbolt was to be released on Feb 10th (2 days from now) Verizon would be "hyping" the thunderbolt just like they're "hyping" the iPhone. Also, how long do you think Apple would have stood still for Verizon releasing a 4G phone on the same day as Verizon was releasing the 3G iPhone? 2nd reason is Verizon stores will be busy enough with iPhone buyers.... they don't need the added business of releasing their first 4G LTE capable phone on the exact same day!
I heard either February 24th or 28th. Spoke to a woman at Verizon, she stated to me that Best Buy is already selling them. How true that is, I am not sure.
Best Buy is taking pre-orders but not yet actually selling them and neither Verizon nor Best Buy has an official release date. The phone has already been said to be in route to stores but the street date is apparently being delayed due to a variety of rumors.
is it possible not to have the 4g and still have the thunderbolt?
Doubtful. You'll most likely have to pay for the LTE data plan (whatever they may be) if you want the Thunderbolt.
Although we have not yet announced any 4G plans, I can explain that the Thunderbolt will be "backwards-compatible" to work on both 3G and 4G networks.
Thanks,

A friend just had a demo with one in a Verizon store in DC!
The LTE network issues they're having right now can be indirectly traced back to apple. They (verizon) apparently spent a lot of time and resources beefing up their existing 3G network to handle the expected iPhone traffic and left LTE on the back burner. And regardless of the iPad 2 being marketed for a different use, they're going to devote their marketing resources to only one at a time. I wouldn't expect to hear any Thunderbolt info until at least a few days after the upcoming iPad 2 launch.
Just left my Verizon store......he said he would be calling me on March 17th to pick up the phone.....only can hope it is true this time!!

yup, looks like they finally got everything good to go and based on the inventory shot, the 29.99 unlimited plan will still be there.
Wirefly is taking preorders right now for 3-17 Shipping. Price with contract is $199.
Just an FYI.
We'll see how this goes.
Just released was the Tunderbolt press release with the 4G unlimited data plan set at 29.99, is this in addition to the 3G data plan or includding it , so basically 60.00 for 3G/4G or 30.00 for 3G/4G. Also I read on a forum last night that VO calling was able to be done on the bolt while on a 3G network is this correct?
http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/14/wirefly-no-skype-on-thunderbolt-but-simultaneous-3g-voice-an/
An article from engadget saying the VO on 3G is possible, can anyone confirm this?
Based on the reviews from people who have had the phone, simultaneous voice and data does indeed work while connected to only 3G. Guess they finally decided to release a phone with the hardware that supported SVDO.
No idea on the 3G/4G?
I have gotten the software update and my phone still keeps loosing its connection only when its in a 3g area. It works perfectly in a 4g area. What is the update?!
This is my second after having to replacing the first. Strongly advise against it. Bad enough it has the battery life of a bad laptop, it's as buggy as a roach motel. Save yourself the aggravation and pick a different one.
I purchased my THUNDERCRAP the first of March 2011. They had beeen out about 3 weeks so. They would have came out in Feb 2011.
P.S. Im on my 5th one. THEY SUCK ...
