3G Mobile Hotspot on Droid 2

I understand that using the Droid 2 as a mobile hotspot will drain a lot of battery life.  Can the phone be plugged into a power outlet while it's being used as a hotspot or is the phone connected to the laptop via a USB cable?

I've not been willing to pay the money to use this feature, but don't see a reason that you couldn't plug it in and use the wifi hot spot. If you decide to plug in and tether to your laptop, the phone will charge while plugged in, so in both cases you should be ok as long as the phone stays cool.
