3 issue's I have with the droid x

First, let me say I love the droid x! I just have a few minor issue's IM hoping to get resolved. Being a former blackberry owner , they priding themselves in one area for sure that being email retrieval. I was shocked to see that android x only gets or as the phone is setup fetch's email in increments of 15 minutes that entirely to long. Next, the phone volume is the worst. And last but not least the blackberry offered a desktop so when it was linked to my laptop it sync and you had a calendar , contacts and much more I don't like having to you back up assistant as a virtual desktop when it doesn't offer has much. Any body with some answer to my issue's I would greatly appreciate the guidance

Touchdown... a great email program..can do secure email..a great program...(one time $20 fee)

for automatic backup..

online... "lookout" does both virus protection, backup and helps find your phone (free)

on computer...motorola has a free program motorola media link which automatically backs up pictures etc when you plug usb port in...it can be customized also (free)

Android 2.2 has been reported to fix a lot of Exchange issues on the X.... I do not use Exchange for my home use, and my company only supports Blackberry because of their remote wipe feature. I have set it up for my home email account to pull from my ISP, but with the amount of spam that gets through, makes my X notify me too much, so I took it out.

I use Outlook at home, and Google has a sync program that will sync Outlook to your gmail account to sync with the X. This works very well since gmail does use push to the phone and anything I put in the phone does appear in my Outlook pretty quickly.

I do not sync my contacts with my phone because I keep my phone contacts seperate from my other contacts that I have in Outlook. I want that seperation. There are contacts that I only use for email, and not call, so it would just take up a lot of space where I don't need those contacts with my phone.

I use backup assistant for just backing up my contacts on my phone in for when I switch phones. My wife had a problem with the local store transfering contacts from one phone to another one time ( for some reason using their transfer software caused a problem on her phone) so we both use backup assistant just for that reason.

Android is still trying to mature as a business phone vs a personal phone. I think it was a mistake for Motorola to put motoblur on the X since they want to position it as a business phone. Motoblur lite on the X is not too cumbersome, but it was more to help with social networks which is not a mobile business purpose (my opinion). I do think that Google will get Android more towards business phone users over time. Android 2,2 opens up the push notification technology to developers to use the same technology that gmail uses, which can result in more battery savings (using a listener to listen for a message instead of using the radios to look for updates.) This can result in getting a message that there is a new email as soon as it hits your email, instead of waiting 15 minutes to find updates.

One of the first things I was told in the store is that email on Android updates every 15 minutes. That didn't matter to me so much since mine is a personal phone, but she told me they were supposed to tell people that who either mention or are considering Blackberry.

The statement about updating every "fifteen minutes" seems very misleading. The Droid X provides options for push email as well as for fetching at several different time intervals - I cannot remember the exact time interval options and I do not have my Droid X with me just now to check. In any case, if fifteen minutes is one of the fetch option time intervals, it is only one among many (some shorter intervals, some longer intervals, etc.) Just check out the email settings and see!

They told me in the store 15 minutes was the shortest interval. The salesperson was the opposite of misleading (in this one case anyways). She was expressly warning me that email is not the same as on a Blackberry.

I have Google Premium Apps for $50/year that I run my email through.

Yesterday I ran a test side by side with the Blackberry Bold and Droid X to see for a period of 24 hours, which device alerted first on email.

Hands down, the Droid X won, on average roughly 4 minutes earlier delivery of email than the blackberry. Both devices were on Verizon network.

There is a fundamental misperception that blackberry email is "instant". It's not.

The blackberry server checks for email every 15 minutes. If it find email, it will download it and alert. Then it will check every 3 minutes for new mail for 5 or 6 times. If none is found during that period it will resume checking every 15 minutes.

The Droid X is as close to Real-Time as you're going to get.

Actually the sales person did mislead you, simply by not differentiating between email types and applications. The "gmail" application is as close to real time as you well get.This is what the posterbefore mgr referred to. The best way to receive real time email on an andros science is to take advantage of this.

You can do this two ways

1. Forward all mail to your gmail. The biggest disadvantage to this is that replies you send will come from your gmail address.

2. Go into your gmail account and set up the options to check your other email accounts. In this merged gmail acts like a mail client, like outlook for example, and "downloads" your mail and serves it to you. With this method you specify your "from" address, however you can not specify your sync time... Gmail had some algorithm to figure out the best sync time for you. I have actually not had a problem with this, but in the beginning I had read about some others that did.

There is also push, or exchange type email, but I am not going to go into that.
