not notified about received phone messages

Turned on my phone this morning and was notified that I had 2 phone messages. Problem is that the messages were from 2 weeks ago and my Dinc never notified me that I had messages waiting using the green phone icon on the upper left side of the menu bar.

Any way to rectify this? I had the same problem w/ a Moto phone in the past.

Phone messages are shown as a white reel to reel, like a cassette tape. The green phone icon means you are in a call.

and there's also a different icon for missed calls. i think it's a red looking phone.

Thats true. If a message was left also, BOTH icons would be there. I will say, it is easy if you pull down the notification bar, to turn off the message notice.

and one more thing.....it is EASY to mistakenly "clear" the notification. i've seen a new i.m. or update notification and slid the page down to clear it and quickly cleared all the notifications w/o realizing there were a few i hadn't seen.
