Who IS happy with 2.2?

I have not received the update message yet and after reading many posts I am not sure I want to update. However, I realize that these forums are the place for people to solve problems so I am unsure how many replies I am going to get in regards to positive responses. Being a "techie". I am well familiar with the bugs and bumps of a new upgrade, but this is my phone, my life line to the world. Should I wait or should I go???

I would wait and if need be do a master reset.....

i love it, all you have to do is a factory reset and after i did that my phone is a complete BEAST!!!!!!

I am not happy with the upgrade to froyo. Like many others i expected performance improvements. However, as others have indicated, the Internet browser is dog slow now. Opening popular sites takes the same amount of time, but you can hardly navigate around the page until it finishes loading all the images. It's as though the phone has very little memory available and is trying to free up more by using more cpu cycles to kill other apps and swap their memory to persistent storage. To put it mildly, it is horrible. I haven't yet heard enough people say that a wipe+fresh-install fixes everything....but i'm tempted to try that.t

Love it. BTW... my extended battery gives me nothing to complain about. No app killers, and programs I download that run in background get uninstalled, gmail is synced but everything else is set to manual, or 12 hrs.
Reboot daily to kill off and memory fighting with the OS and apps.
It'll be fine. Following those basic rules and 2.2 is no sweat.
Don't let people scare you.

I am loving 2.2 - for me this is the greatest gadget i've ever seen.

Thank you all for your reply and I am interested, as are others, of your comments, they are extremely helpful. I am assuming the trick is the hard reset, only having my phone for a short period I only have my contacts on it that are backed up by the Backup assistant and also Gmail. With no other personal info to be backed up and some simple connections to web mail and Facebook, a hard rest will not be a big issue if necessary. Good luck. I updated last Friday and my phone is buggy and slow. Jumps all over the place...I would go back to 2.1 if I could, was VERY happy before the 2.2 downgrade.

I did a complete wipe before my upload came ....long bad story, but my phone works great better battery life-its been on now for 15h52m23s still has 50%, granted I didn't use it all that much:

standby 30%

phone idle 28%

wifi 25%

system 11%

display 4%

maps 2%

but I was using tapatalk and the camera last night around 8:30 and the phone is still cranking...

Count me among the great number of displeased users. I loved my phone right up until the update completely wrecked it.

Before you think that I am exaggerating, consider the plethora of issues I encountered immediately following the install:

-I lost 90% of my contacts after the upgrade. The few remaining contacts were lost when the techs got ahold of my phone.

-Apps run continuously, which causes my battery to be completely depleted within half a day. Compare that to the almost 2 days of battery life I used to get.

-Orientation issues when turning the phone. A good descriptor would be 'confused' for this problem. The phone acted like it had no idea where to go. Back and forth, back and forth.

-Rampant scrolling issues.

-Gmail was the only email that worked after the update.

-The phone would no longer sync with my 2010 Ford truck.

Sprint Verizon did a hard reset last night and left me with a partial phone. Most everything is working properly now even though I lost all of my contacts, pictures, and music. And forget about using an Exchange email client if my phone is any indicator. Finally, my battery life is still suspect since there are 15 apps running in the background. I even downloaded the Advanced Task Killer Froyo but even it won't kill the apps. I do hard stops and the apps still run.

Suffice it to say that you do not own this phone after 2.2 is installed - It owns you. I hate to say it but I'm tempted to root it so that I am in control of the phone....

I'm happy with the update. My phone has none of the described problems. Battery life isn't any worse than it was before the update. The items seen in task killer are a non-issue, I don't even use a TK. Never have, never will. Although many here seem to believe that they know more than those who created the OS, I'm not in that category. I will assume that they they do - in fact - know a little more than I do about their product than I do, until I'm able to build my own OS and have it loaded exclusively on a massive line of flagship handsets. For now, I'll go with their advice.

Anyhoooo... As I said, no issues with the Froyo update.

I certainly do not pretend to know more about the OS than the developers, I'm not sure how that even is applicable. If your phone is acting up or not working than someone telling you are wrong does not make it so. As far as task killer goes, I do not know if all the apps now showing on task killer are impacting battery life or not. But I do know that my phone jumps from screen to screen without being touched, it does jump around from folder to folder in e-mail, it is noticeably slower on the internet, etc... than before, and the battery is definitely draining quicker and charging slower. Obviously there are issues out there, the title of this overall site is Droid Incredible not issues with update, yet there is almost nothing else being posted. I have never posted on this site ever, the only reason I came here was because of the issues I have been having. Whether it's the majority or minority, it is very clear there are significant issues. It took about a week after the "upgrade" before my phone starting acting up, so I strongly suspect that once all Incredible users have "upgraded" and have had it running for a week or so these post will grow significantly.

As far as the phone jumping from screen to screen, try cleaning out the optical joystick. This happens to me sometimes if a piece of lint or something gets in there from my pocket.

the hard reset is only IF you have any issues. most of us had none. i am LOVING 2.2. didn't need to reset. had no issues. uninstalled app killer. battery life is the same. and i'm not sure what the deal is with some people's browsing experience? everyone i've seen (including myself) that has run speed tests, have seen significant increase in upload/dowload speeds. still scrolls as smooth as an iphone. 720p video recording is sweet. i almost dropped the $20/mo to add the hot spot feature (at a fantasy football draft last night with 6 guys on laptops when the wifi crashed) last night just to show it off, but thought better of it. yes....apps run in the ground. but no.....it has had no negative impact on my performance. using the stock battery and i still get 20+ hours of up time and about 3 hours of awake time. i rarely actually use it more than 3 hours in a day so it works GREAT for me. i know there are legitimate bugs and issues out there, but i also suspect many users have things synching constantly that they don't realize. like dabu mentioned, i tweaked a lot of those. don't use the facebook app, set email to only check every 15 minutes, turned of "news," "stocks," and "weather" synching (when i use the weather widget i synch it with one touch while viewing so why do i need it to constantly synch?). unless i use it heavily for some reason, i still get a full day from one charge (same as the day i bought it 4 months ago).

I am very happy with 2.2. I was having some issues at first, but I did a hard reset after I did the update, and it has been fine ever since! It is so fast, and I don't have any issues with the screen or anything. I uninstalled my task killer, and my battery life has been just fine.

Since my Forced Master Reset, this phone is so much better. two issues though, disappearing email even from GMail and the tediously slow charge now.

I am on my 3rd incredible since the release of 2.2 and the overall performance of the phone is subpar compared to the 2.1update1 version.

3 phones with 2.2 and repetitive issues indicates the issue is with the software and not the phone. Verizon will continue to push me replacements but my best bet is hoping for the supposed update containing fixes in the coming weeks.

Like many other users ...the phone/software was much more solid prior to 2.2.

I am very happy. I installed the update.zip file. The phone is running faster I have not seen any problems the battery seems the same except for the slower charging which I understand was inrentional. I. Could not be any happier with this update.

First of all, I don't recall accusing you of being one of those folks who presume to know more than the dev's. In fact, I don't recall even considering your previous post at all in the above-quoted reply. But thanks for taking a ride on the way-to-sensitive bus.

Second of all, I've been doing this whole mobile-y gadget-y thing for a very very long time and without fail, when an update comes, the forums for that product will invariably be filled with people who are having problems with said update. If you look back through the Android forums here and on any of the other boards that pertain to Android devices and search posts during the time period directly after an update, you will hear the exact same things. As King Solomon said - there is nothing new under the sun. I truly wish you weren't having the issues you are having, and it's a bad deal, but the title of the thread is "Who IS happy with 2.2?" I am. I'm perfectly happy with it. I love it, in fact. I'm glad I upgraded early via the manual update so I didn't have to wait. And you know what? If I DID have problems with it, I'd spend more time researching the problem and trying various solutions to make it better and I'd spend less time complaining on the forums in every single new post that comes up about it, as if no one read your same post a hundred times already throughout the forums. And if I were new to the forums, I wouldnt start off my experience there with an angry threatening flame of the phone, the company and everything that has to do with it. Sometimes we have to do things ourselves and have to stop relying on the company that sold the item to give us a solution. And sometimes those solutions have to be drastic, but they'll work and they'll make it better.

Not saying that this applies to you, but I'm just throwing it out there for ya.

I agree. Updated manual also and have had nothing but good to say. My friends got the OTA and nothing but good to say.
I have an issue and spend hours trying to fix it myself.,I ask for help, figure it out using those 2 methods and solve the problem. It's almost fun. Especially when I figure it out myself. Lol.
This phone is great and I'm actually growing brand loyalty for HTC. I've heard tons more serious issues by other leading manufacturers.
I'm glad I have HTC and Froyo!

Not happy at all. my battery now dies by around 12PM-1PM every day without making a single phone call, or browsing the web. with 2.1 it lasted until 7 or 8PM easily with heavy use, push email, widgets, and all the goodies turned on.

i swear, I really am one of the lucky ones this time (I got totally screwed updating the OS on my second generation iPod Touch, but that's another story). I was apparently one of the first to get the OTA update. After installation and fixing one small glitch (it changed the sync settings on my Gmail accounts), it has worked like a charm from the start. Loving Voice Actions. Maybe it's my imagination, but the battery seems to last longer.

Happy as can be with my D-Inc.

love 2.2. I have 6 widgets refreshing every half hour, 1 every hour, and 5 other screens full up of other widgets that dont need internet. Voice stuff is good, havent had an issue with it yet. Apps all working nothing getting killed that doesnt need to be. 3g is on at all times, i undock my phone from ~715 to ~930pm, always on facebook, always texting, several bluetooth file transfers, a couple emails here and there, a couple evernote uploads and battery hits 30% at around 7pm. Internet is never sluggish, using stock browser, non-mobile sites load quickly and smoothly, mobile sites even quicker, scrolling long webpages is a little stop and go sometimes, but isnt an issue as this only happens on non mobile sites. Couldnt ask for a better phone. Did the manual ota little over a week ago, no issues with that either.

have to say that Im pretty happy with the update!! I just got the extended battery,this phone is gonna rock.Salesperson at the store told me to get the app killer and folder app??? app killer doesnt seem to work really,apps restart on their own?? weird! Im loving this phone,sorry to the folks who are disappointed.

I totaly agree with you..I just got a brand new replacement phone today & the problem is not with the phone but with the software.....2.1 software was more stable & the phone ran fast & was responsive on 2.1! I would love to roll back!!!

I'm starting to wonder what VZ was really doing when they said, in June, and July, and in August, that they were performing quality assurance testing on froyo before releasing it to us. Geeze, next time don't makes us wait for what was obviously a lot of thumb spinning. I wonder if the AT&T network engineers pull double duty as VZ handset quality control personel. :smileyhappy:
