Does anyone know how the droid x updates are queued up? I keep checking my system updates button so many times, I've started to feel like a kid waiting for my x-ray spy glasses to arrive in the mail.
Sadly, there is no 2.2 update for the Droid X. The 2.2 update that was released yesterday only applies to the original Droid. The timeline for the 2.2 update to the Droid X is "Late Summer" according to Motorola / Verizon. Don't waste your time waiting for an update to your Droid X right now.
That's all well and good, however, what about the Droid (original) when will we get 2.2 for it?
Why not what is the hold up.?
The droid X should have been ready to recieve the 2.2 up-date the day it was released. It does not make any sense.

Verizon put a type of MotoBlur skin on top of the Android OS on the Droid X. The original Droid was more basic.
The delay is in the testing to make sure that nothing is broken when they put it out on the OTA servers for the Droid X. This involves more time before release. Its the nature of the beast. No matter how well programmers do a program, when the underlying OS is changed, there are bound to be problems. Look at the iOS4. I know of programmers that had to scramble to fix their programs because of something Apple changed, and now their programs have bugs where they didn't have bugs before. The changes were buried in documentation, so they didn't see the problem before iOS4 was released.
Verizon wants to make sure that their skin doesn't break with 2.2. I personally don't mind the delay. I would rather it take Verizon a few more weeks to get the update out, than to push it out prematurely and have something broken that renders the phone unusable.
No, I do not work for Verizon. I work for a Fortune 500 company as a Testing Engineer Specialist, so I do understand why it takes a while to get something out.
Patience is the key.
At least I'm not the only one wearing out the phone info/update button. I love my Droid X and know 2.2 will only make it better!.
I can't wait for froyo!! I search for news on it coming to my X daily.
Thanks for the info glad to see someone knows what they're talking about. Perfection takes time.
