My phone keeps crashing since the update. It freezes up every program it tries to run, doesn't respond to any commands, and then shuts down. This has been a horrible update for me.Anyone else have this problem? Or anyone else have a solution?
No problems yet and I am on day 2. Did you try pulling the battery out for a minute and then reinstall?
Yeah, tried that the first 20 times it crashed. Finally called tech support and they had to do over the air programming, and it seems to be working better now.I'll keep my fingers crossed, just in case.
Nevermind. Worked for about an hour, and it's messing up again.Have to call Tech Support back.
I suggest that you look at your apps. From what you have described, it appears that one (or more) of your apps doesn't like the latest upgrade. I would uninstall all of the apps, and then put them in one by one until the one causing you headaches gets installed.
Updated mine and my wife's.....no issues since update a few days ago.
Since the upgrade, mine will "out of the blue" turn off and turn back on. It is not like a full reboot. There is no "M" that usually comes up when you turn it on and off. It was sitting in the car dock today and simply shut off and on. The only reason I knew something was going on was because my Bluetooth beeped in my ear. Kind of a pain in the butt because in my job I depend on the gps and when it decides to shut off while I'm driving, I really want to throw it out the window.
Updating a modified device isnt wise in my opinion, there is to many verible that the update has to compensate for, the best thing to do is hard reset because the update keeps the settings files that contained the bug that the update was intended to fix... What since does that make? If you are having issues backup and hard reset id the wises way to fix the issue.
Here are my issues. I updated to 2.3.340 last night. Before the update, my phone kept "forgetting" how to play media files. I power cycled the phone and all was good for awhile. Then the problem returned multiple times. After the update, the media player problem hasn't returned, but now my phone has failed to power up the bluetooth when prompted, it has lost 3G coverage multiple times from places that this should not be an issue, and it would not update apps when requested. All problems have been temporarily rectified by power cycling.
I just did the upgrade ... NO BUENO!!!
Here are my issues so far: I open my text messages and there is nothing there... I can't even open the options screen! I'm praying I didn't lose all my texts!!
My Market will not open. It states that there is an error and to try again later.
My music is gone. and access is DENIED
My pictures are gone!!
and im sure there is more...
Verizon is closed for tech support right now... what do I do??????
As for your pictures and music, I believe that is stored on your SD card.
You should be able to pull the SD card, connect it to your PC, and save the content to your hard drive, then re-load it to the SD card once you have the phone straightened out.
I have 2 Droid Xs, both went through the update just fine, no issues.
Like others here, I firmly believe that this issues are related to certain apps and widgets that don't get along with the new firmware.

Pay for a good backup app that saves EVERYTHING on their weibsite. Once you're sure it's all safely stored there -- including all your apps, photos, music, texts, do a FACTORY RESET. Next, load the upgrade again if it will let you. Return to your backup site and load your apps. I had the same problem as you and this solved it for me. LOVE it now!!
This has been a strange update for me. The previous update to 2.2 Froyo really was a non-event for me. I had no problems whatsoever. But this latest one seems to cause some strangeness from time to time. I did get a random reboot once. I had a hang, once. Every once in a while I get some screen flicker or something strange - but it does't happen that often, so for now just something I notice. I think some of the APPS that were installed prior to this update probably still need updating - e.g., LPP - as they are maybe implicated ... we'll see. But definitely a little buggy of an update for me compared to previous.
I could be imagining things but it sure seems like the battery consumption has gone way up since the update.
I was in meetings almost all day today so I had very little time on the phone.
My phone was in the red by 4:00 PM.
Before the update I was still green at bed time.
Yeah I am with you. Charged last night from 10p to 6a this morning. Little use and one call, and I was in red by 5pm. Before update I could have moderate use, one or two calls and still last till 10 or 11 pm. I have checked all my settings, and even looked at battery consumption screen on a regular basis and nothing is out of the ordinary. Something else is hogging my battery and I don't like it. And honestly I am tired of the factory reset answer everyone is giving out. I don't want to spend hours or days, getting my phone back to the point that has taken me months to get to. {edit for TOS violation}

Android OS 2.3 upgrade working without a problem here.
You might need to upgrade your apps.
You may want to include detail information about how to duplicate your problem... starting from rebooting the phone.
You need to isolate the problem before you can troubleshoot it.
When the froyo update came out, phone was fine. Ever since the update2.2.1 , when I connect the X to my computer & access my sd card(mass storage), it will eject it & in & out, and can't access it and when I remove the usb and view the "files" folder it says no SD card inserted(which it is) , only if I remove the SD card and put it in my media slot of my pc I can view all my files...
Another thing, When I look into the "gallery" it boots me out to home screen. When I try to attempt to change the wallpaper & choose "media gallery" it boots me out, but accessing "live wallpaper" & "wallpapers" is just fine. I try to upload a pic to facebook, or attach photos on an email and when I access the "gallery" it boots me out to home screen as well.
When I use the camera and take a pic and want to view the picture I can see all pictures I have taken and can only use the photos I have taken as wallpaper.
ANYONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM ALSO?
I HAVE REMOVED THE BATTERY A FEW TIMES, UPDATED ALL APPS I HAVE, ERASED ALOT OF PICS,FILES,MUSIC OFF MY SD CARD, & I CALLED *228 FOR THE PROGRAMMING ALSO, I DON'T WANT TO CALL VZW YET..THAT WOULD BE MY LAST RESORT....=(
ANYONE PLEASE HELP?
I am on the limited 150mb data plan. Obviously when the phone updates it will require data, but 13 or 14 mb? I lost almost 10% of my data allotment the second day I got my phone!
I didn't even have the option to say no. The phone automatically downloaded the update and kept bugging me until I installed it.
I personally think it is unfair to CHARGE for phone software updates. Non data phones can do software updates without charging for data usage.
I would say that since you can note the issues started directly after the update then you should be able to hard reset your device which will then make you phone function as if the operating software had been freshly installed on a new device and downloading your content afterward. your pictures should be saved to your memory card and contact info saved to your gmail account. so you should have no worries there. Also, If you paid for any apps you are still ok as per google's policy paid apps follow your gmail account and can be re-downloaded free. This solved issues I had and my phone operates like a dream now. If this does not resolve your issue with memory card problems I would contact VZW for a replacement as something may have affected your memory card slot. as unbelievable as it may be yes these go bad sometimes.
I have had the 2.2.340 for a week now and here are the issues I have noticed so far.
The home screen has gone horizontal only once for me.
Fix: none, as this has only happened once to me.
My hard buttons at the bottom stop lighting up every once in a while.
Pressing the power button up top to put the phone in sleep, then back on solves.
Wifi seems to hang more often.
Turning wifi off then back on solves.
Screen brightness is dimmer sometimes when coming out of wake mode.
Pressing the power button up top again to put phone in sleep then on fixes it.
BT failed to sink in my vehicle even though it said it was, this has only happened once.
Manually dialed phone number and it forced a re-connect to my vehicles BT system.
These are minor issues to me but thought I would post them non the less. Just for reference, I came from 2.1.
Since the upgrade, I've had problems with the Gallery. It won't load. Anyone know of a fix for this?
Ever since I updated my X, I have lost the Market. The shortcut is still there, but the app is gone from the Applications. Can't even check to see if any of my apps need updating because it is gone. Anyone else have this problem?
Also, If I do a hard reset, will the Market be downloaded again to my phone or will I need to take it in to the store and have them reinstall the software?

You would be best looking at this link. It was a BIG issue after the update from 2.1 to 2.2.

Well it's been 5 days now and I can say without a doubt this update KILLED battery life!
My phone just shut down from a dead battery and I didn't spend 10 min. on the phone today.
It would last almost 24 hours before the update.
Had to pull the battery out and reboot every 5 minutes just to be able to make phone calls and check messages... it didn't help.
I did that too, the phone was still having issues though.
When I called Tech Support back, they really didn't want to deal with me, so they sent me a "new" (refurbished) phone. I took a bunch of Apps off, and the phone could make calls, and only had to be reset every couple hours, but I ended out switching out phones.
The last issue I had was that I could not end a call when I called tech support back. I got the new phone working, and had the exact same issue with that. Hopefully, your caller will hang up for you if you have this issue.
My Camera button fails to launch the Camera APP intermittently when pressed/held ... sometimes requires me to reboot 2 to5 times to get it back. This started right after the new OS update - flawless prior to that.
Here is a post that should resolve your issue.... http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid-x/45268-i-made-oops.html#post439805

Updating a OS without a hard reset is a bad ideal because you have apps installed that hasnt been tested with update, the update usually modifies files to complete update that can cause a number of issues, I do not get why a hard reset isnt suggested on all OS updates. Try a reset and do not restore settings because this will just place errors back on device. Updating a app isnt as extreme as overriding a OS with fixes.
I hard reset before any major update and havent had any issues so far.
Follow these settings during restore to avoid issues being restored automatically.
1. Uncheck "Back up my data" under Settings/Privacy
2. Click Factory Data Reset/Reset Phone
3. After reset is complete only Active Phone but do not input Google Email information
4. Once phone is at homepage go back into Settings/Privacy and make sure the Automatic Restore option is unchecked, even if grayed out, activate "Back up my data" and quickly disable "Automatic Restore"
5. After being sure that the Automatic Restore option is off it will be safe to log into Google and you can continue installing preferred apps and custom settings.
This process will stop all applications and settings from restoring automatically and restoring original issues that usually resolve a number of issues.
