Stylus

I have been reading about stylus pens for other electrostatic touch styles screens. (capacitive LCD) Will any of these work with the Droid2?

It's my understanding that capacitive touchscreens work by detecting changes in electrical conductivity when your skin touches the screen. A stylus would not cause any changes, so therefore would not work.

Resistive screens, on the other hand, work by detecting changes in pressure on the screen, so a stylus works fine - in fact, better in some cases because it is more precise than a finger. I've found this to be the case with my Voyager touchscreen.

Verizon personnel said the screen is heat sensative so a stylus could just be heated slightly. Does anyone know of any such devise? How can they NOT have a stylus for this phone?

They do sell them in Japan... they are supposed to have a "sausage" tip on them.

Well, if you are a woman with longer finger nails, it makes it a little more difficult to use the screen at times.

try using your knuckle. I've seen a woman do this.

Have found some stylus pens for the Droid 2 on amazon. I see other stylus pens for the other droid too. I am most likely sure those pens would work with your phone though. Look HERE. The Droid 2 one is $14.95

...and I have done this. Works when the fingers are sticky or wet.

No offense meant, sorry. You bring a good point tho. Fingernails are not a modern touch screen's best friend. By friend uses her knuckle too, she has big nails.

......and I wonder what will happen in the winter when I try to use the phone. Wisconsin can be very cold and a heat sensitive screen might not work well.

It uses more than just heat to recognize.

You can search for IPhone stylus as well. Both the Droid and the IPhone's use capacitive screens for touch, so if it will work for IPhone it will work on the Droid as well.

I had someone give me one of these, and it works well for clicking, but is too sticky for swiping, so I don't use it.

Ok.....I have ordered a stylus and will report back as to it's ability to work with the Droid 2. It will nice if it works for the winter months so you can use the phone without taking gloves off.

Look for iPhone styli. There are several battery-powered models for sale on Amazon.

Perhaps I am looking for the wrong stylus, but I could not find any that were battery operated unless they had a light or a laser associated with it. Could you please include a link for a battery operated stylus in a reply? Thanks!

As promised, I am updating my post since I received my stylus today. First of all it took forever to get here since it came from Hong Kong. (Not a problem for me) To my amazement, it did work on my Droid 2 screen. The end of the stylus needs to be flat against the screen making it a little awkward to use. The end is larger than I expected so at times it hits parts of the screen not intended to be touched like using your finger. I will probably use it more in the winter months. If I could find one with a smaller tip, I would certainly buy it. Please see the picture as to which one I ordered, it is true to size. It cost around $6.00. I hope this helps others as many people have looked at this post and must be thinking on the same lines as myself.
