Free Apps Question and Security of those Apps

So when downloading the free apps, I see that the applications can access the following on your phone.

i.e. Storage (modify/delet SD card contents)......etc.

Does this mean that the maker of that app can come into my phone and delete things or modify them?

If so, they is a HUGE security risk to everyone that downloads them. I'm not sure I want to give up my personal information without being able to opt out ot these type of issues.

I know I don't have to download them, but where does it stop?

Market 2.2.7 pretty much has access to everything on my phone. Same as Ringdroid (2.4), YouTube (2.1.6), Zedge (1.15.2), etc.....

I deleted about 20 apps because I started seeing that they can access pretty much anything they want on my phone.....

For example ringdroid and zedge need access to the sd card to save and delete the ringtones and wallpapers that the application provides. They are not generally going scan through the sd card and add or delete anything it wants. If you have a concern, check out the application's website or email the developer and ask them. Both the website and email links are available in app's market page.

Applications must have access to certain portions of a device in order to save data or interact with other portions of a device so it can run properly. Just because an app needs access to other features of the device does not mean the developer can snoop into your device and delete your data.

Personally I just monitor my handset and read ALL the information on an app before I install it. I dont think anyone out there would be interested in my data stored on my handset, so for me its a non issue.
