OK so who else is fed up with this froyo 2.2 update

When I was with Blackberry and the storm we had to wait and wait for an update. While other phones get the updates we wait. Same story different phone. This is nothing new I have been with Verizon wireless for the past seventeen years, I think It might be time to see what else is out there minus at&t. I received my incredible two days before release day and have been really happy with it. My biggest complaint is froyo has been in the works for awhile now,and I just don't understand why we icredible users have really been left in the dark. COME ON VERIZON IT TIME FOR THE UPDATE RIGHT?

I understand that just verizon acts like its some big secrect. And I know from past updates, they dont want to say anything official and not be able to do it.

I'm not tired of the update. I don't have the update. I'm just really tired of hearing about it. It's going to be released OTA July18, then August 18, now August 28. Holy crap, can't people be happy with what they have? This topic has dominated dinc forums on the internet for over a month now.

well, first off i dont' understand this whole secrecy on the update on incredible like their going to put a super froyo version on the phone. evo is running good on froyo with a few glitches and i understand thier working on it and maybe when they release it to inc it would be less buggy but i highly doubt it would be. i know some people are happy with 2.1, you prolly just use the phone to call and some want to their phone to bring to new heights or feature. its not that hard to just let people know "hey we understand you want your froyo and where working on it" just a little sign to say inc isn't the new droid eris. but either VZW is **bleep** off at HTC because of the screen shortage or what not and VZW is holding on the update for the droid INC so people think that HTC has SUCKS and go with other brand phone besides HTC. im not so sure but i haven't seen any other HTC on VZW getting updates....

obviously you have the option not to read about the updates or what not. if your happy with your phone then good, some people want more things for the inc to do and its capable of doing more. besides calling people.

I think its due to keeping the spotlight on Moto phones. I bet the X will get the update, then we will shortly after. Is it right? No, but I'm betting its a brand loyalty thing for Verizon. Just a guess...

I come on here every once in a while just to read what people are complaining about. And these rants about starving for the update are ridiculous. There are so many more important things to be worrried about besides upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2

Yes, I have a job, but I don't have money to burn. When I signed up for the Incredible, they said it was a phone....BUT I have poor signal and lousy call quality. SO I have a device, not a phone. The **bleep** clowns at Verizon keep promising that these problems will be fixed with the release of Froyo......so I bet that a lot of people aren't specifically waiting for Froyo, but for the bug fixes that HTC and Verizon have been promising since April. I did not pay $199 for a device, I want a phone too (as advertised). So, all you people saying they are sick of people whining about Froyo......Maybe it's because we don't have $199 to throw out the window on a phone that doesn't work as a phone...and we are paying the highly inflated smartphone rates while waiting for it to be fixed. Okay there, Donald Trump?

Well i do have a job, and a pretty good one at that. Either make a point or go away.

Some of us dont give one rats behind about Froyo, some of us just want our phones to work they way they are supposed to.

Maybe your phone is fine, thats great, but just because yours works doesnt mean the rest of the users phones are working the way they are supposed to, have been promised by VZ.

I like my Inc, the speed is great, the inet works well, and overall the phone is good, but that isnt the problem. The problem is when things dont work, like................. oh i dont know "BEING ABLE TO HEAR A PHONE CALL", anyone hear of antennagate? Sounds familiar doesnt it.

I didnt spend my hard earned money on a phone to be able to do pretty much everything EXCEPT, making calls. I bought the phone to do everything VZ promised it would do, and so far VZ has FAILED miserably.

RIght now VZ is getting hammered by blog posts, news articles, twitter, and even on their own forums, because of their lack of communication. All they would have to do is make a small statement to alleviate the hammering, but no they continue to ignore the very people who allow them to stay in business and make money.

a few issues goin on here. yes...some people are whining a bit too much for no good reason. however, those that have bunk devices also have every right to want the fix (my brother had a droid with the muffled voice issue. so bad he bought a bluetooth earpiece. i seriously couldn't talk to him on his droid w/o the earpiece. since 2.2 last week he is CRYSTAL CLEAR). AND even those with good devices have every right to want the new features that customers who bought the moto droid (nearly a year ago) already received. also, i too believe that vzn and moto have so much goin on together that moto takes priority. it's not right and i don't like it, but from marketing to customer service, moto has been given priority since the droid. AND...after the 2.1 eris debacle, i'm sure they want this update to go as smooth as it possibly can, and right now, they don't htink it's ready. all of this being said, it would go a LONG way towards all of our patience if they would just officially release a statement. even if it was "we are working on it but currently have a few bugs to fix and do not know when it will be pushed.ota." that would go a long way. it would show that they at least acknowledge htc users!!!!!

A cel-phone is definitely not a basic need like food. However, some of us have less basic needs that Verizon has to consider. I for example use my phone to keep in touch with family and friends in Israel. Not having Hebrew fonts on 2.1 prevents me from reading important emails, or viewing my daughter's posts on Facebook, or reading local news from Israel. Many Verizon customers share the same desire for much wider font support, which is part of Froyo.

But beyond this point, Verizon's claim de fame is excellent service. Ignoring customers is a far cry from even decent service. I would much rather get an expected release date, which will be delayed a little, than be completely ignored.

Sborden mentions call quality. I live and work in areas that have bad reception. I had Palm Treo with reasonable reception, then Blackberry with poor reception. Now I use my HTC Incredible with terrible reception. My wife still has a Blackberry, and we can see the difference - same spot, same time. I was ready to return the HTC but after calling Verizon and understanding that the new upgrade would solve some of the issues I decided to keep this amazing toy. That was around May-June!!!!

I believe these are valid reasons to be impatient about the Froyo upgrade. Verizon should show some respect towards us, the customers, and provide expected release dates.

When I bought this phone not so long ago 2 months or so, I started to have issues with the phone. With in a week I went back to the store where I bought the phone and I was told by the Verizon store and the CSRs online that there is a patch coming out that will fix your issue. I have been more than patient with Verizon, and have been a loyal Verizon customer since 1996. Now I am getting a little tired of waiting. So to those who say is your phone working "NO, its not working not as it should or was advertised". You don't promise a customer something and not deliver. I, and we have paid good money for inferior products and told to just be patient a fix is coming. When I asked the Verizon Rep about switching out my phone I was told it is over the 30 days, and then when I asked about switching out for a like phone, then was told that there is a back order on the phone and I would have to wait several weeks anyway. Plus I was told by more than one rep that wouldn't fix the issue, it is a software issue. I have been getting the runaround lately from a company that i used to respect. So is it all due to this update no, but it is where it started.

I called Verizonwireless last night and they told me they don't release 2.2, Google does since the Android system is Google's. They are releasing it slowly. Don't stone me, I'm just passing on what I was told last night.

Verizon techs have to make the sense iu work with froyo therefore verizon will release the update for their phone. You are right that the update is from goggle but they give it to carriers to adjust to work on all the different phones

Have you tried downloading Google translate from the market? It does hebrew. Just a suggestion to help in the interim. Shalom alechem

Most of the complaints on the FroYo update threads are pointless, in my opinion. All of the preconceived customer complaints are so repetitive; Most claims that "Verizon said the update will roll out on MMDDYYYY" that people post here are so inconsistent. The only source for most of them are the customer posts themselves, or links to third-party sites that, while some may be more credible than others, still aren't that credible at all in the grand scheme of both reliable media and information.

The only announcements that were made in regard to FroYo updates FROM VERIZON were for the phones Verizon confirmed the updates on.

If you check the support pages for the phones that have been updated or phones that will receive the update in the future, you'll notice that there's an image file with a picture of the phone that has/will receive the update, as well as the features that are included in the update.

On the Droid Incredible support pages there is no, and has not been any, information regarding said updates coming to the incredible yet.

Anyone complaining and making claims to Verizon that they're poorly representing the Droid Incredible customer base are claims of ignorance. Anyone posting complaints are relying on third-party media information; that of which do not even have direct links the source.

Their direct source is the third-party media.

It'd be one thing if Verizon (the corporation itself) made an announcement to it's customers that an OTA update including FroYo was supposed to start rolling out the 18th of August; only for customers to find out that as of today it still hasn't rolled out.

But that's not the case. Stop crying. If the day comes where Verizon makes an announcement on the update for the Droid Incredible, and their actions don't speak as loud as their words, then start crying.

Until then, blow your noses.

g0dhand, I agree. However, given the third-party sites and media that are fueling the misinformation, I believe Verizon has a responsibility to publicly dismiss them. If Verizon put out official statements on their support pages and their website regarding the misinformation (instead of Twitter posts and a brief forum post), Verizon could save us and themselves a lot of grief. It would also send a clear message that these third-party sites aren't credible and can't be trusted.

How much time is being wasted handling support calls/emails over this? I'd imagine their support staff is as frustrated, if not more-so, than users.

I'm being patient, but I did buy the phone with the sales pitch that 2.2 was coming and it would have all the bells and whistles. Would be nice to know when I'd get them. :smileyhappy:

Sitting idly on the events at hand are probably not the best action (or lack thereof). And I also agree that it would save a lot of time replying to the assumptions regarding an OTA Update of FroYo to the Incredible.

And while Verizon did announce that the update was not available to customers on the same day that the rumors said it would be released, doing so on a Twitter account alone was probably not the best plan of action.

Regarding Verizon's reaction towards the third-party media: While it might be in the Corporation's best interests to denounce the credibility of the FroYo update to the Incredible, it may not necessarily be in their best interest to discredit the third-party media altogether.

While this rumor alone is false, most people do, in turn, get information that IS true from third-party media as well. Some that might have been guessed and ended up being confirmed by Verizon, some that Verizon may or may not have given to these sites so that they may redistribute by their own means to users.

By discrediting any third-party medium outright, that may lead said media to respond by bad-mouthing the Corporation as a whole or in other areas.

In laymen's terms, a "corporate catfight". Corporate, "He said, she said." For a corporation as large as Verizon, would it even be in their best interest to waste the time and money dealing with some third-party tech-media sites that, while they may be popular among "techies", aren't the biggest source of information on the internet?

I agree with you that the rumor dates are **bleep**. Verizon has said nothing about a date for the release of 2.2 so people should not be posting "I heard this date from this person who works for this part of Verizon" rumors. They are absolutely providing poor service and this is why:

It is a fact that there is a 2.2 update for the Incredible. Google released Android 2.2, and HTC has already added Sense to that, for the Incredible, and released that to Verizon (call HTC and they will confirm this as a fact). My problem comes to how Verizon is handling it in two major ways. First, keeping your customers in the dark is providing poor service. I agree wanting to make the update work perfectly before release is the right thing to do. Just tell us thats what is happening. Give us a tentative release date. If it takes longer, push that date back (with a few days notice). This would solve all of the rumor issues. Leaving customer guessing, which makes them put hope in these **bleep** rumors, does nothing but frustrate them. Second, make sure the customer service reps are telling customers the same thing. I've called tech support three times, and got three different answers. They don't have a clue. Give them a united message. This is easily solved by posting a tentative date.

It comes down to this: Someone in Verizon knows something. Keeping customers in the dark only adds fuel to these rumors. Its human nature to put hope on something that customers are excited about and want. You can't blame people for being frustrated at Verizon for not releasing the update.

It's this simple: There wouldn't be rumors in the first place if you would put up some information........

Hell no I can't be happy with what I have! It's bad business to sell a new devise to someone and claim that it is the latest and greatest and then two weeks later update the older devices with new software and leave the people that just bought into your crap out in the cold. Even Apple updates the newer devices first and the old stuff later. It's a bad way to treat new customers.

Man I m sorry to here you are having so much trouble with your device. As for me I couldn't be happier. Love the phone use as my primary business phone. Have not lost/drop a call since I got it in April. As for froyo we'll get it in we get it. Like others I m tired of hearing about!

Oh man you beat me lol! The one thing I found interesting about this leak is the fact you don't have to void your warranty by installing it. You get my drift? I'm sure someone's going to get mad when they realize you can get the update now without doing the alternative. I'm actually thinking we may see that 2.2 legit push soon if this is the supposed final build. Guess ill have to sit back and watch the comments and see if this thing is the real deal. Or if its bricking phones. I know I'm too scared to try lol.

Some interesting new developments people in the last few hours.

Verizon is posting download instructions to Froyo 2.2 here.

Phandroid posted an article on a "leaked rom" for the Incredible here. Comments in that article are saying that people are calling CS and they are also stating the release date is tomorrow 08-27-10. Oh and apparently the rom works great. I'm still unable to get a build number to compare to verizons version they posted on the vzw site.

Finally Droid-Life.com has this article claiming that the update to 2.2 begins the 27th! It's a screenshot of a vzw update computer. Shoot over to droidlife anyways and read the comments. Those guys are crazy..

U know really my biggest complaint is the fact that I have had the Inc since day one. My friend went out and got the droid yesterday and had an ota update to 2.2 in an hour of activation. Bummed me out that he would call just to laugh cause he knows how long I've been waiting for this update. :smileysad:

ppl around the net (primarily in the US, where we aaallll know this is an issue) need to be patient! many people dont realize there are many things that go into these updates. you ever get an assignment in a high lvl comm. class, set a deadline where you want to have it done by....that day comes and you still havent even started the thing? i know i have and i'm sure others have too. HTC uses sense software, unlike motorola (which is why i own mostly HTC devices and not motorola) i enjoy the sense software and the reputation HTC has as a company that makes quality products. on a side-note if HTC ever pulls an "iFail" like apple motorola here i come :smileyvery-happy: ... anyways you can't just make an android 2.2 update and push it to every phone. just like a computer, each phone has different hardware that needs separate code to be written and tested. sense interacts with android differently so it needs extra attention.

think about this. would you rather have 2.2 released in july, be full of bugs, possible render your phone useless for what its actually made to do......make a PHONE call, and then have to wait for numerous other updates and fixes to make the thing useful again? or would you rather be patient and use the phone like you've been doing just fine for the past few months and wait for the techs and coders working on the project to properly finish the update.

apple goofed big time and released the iFail 4.0 waaaay too early to compete with all the android devices being released as similar times and look what happened. you paid all that money for one and basically got an overpriced paperweight. then the excuse as to why apple isn't putting out a white device for the next 6 months...."because we are having problems with painting the color of the case"? ...... be careful where you step readers....something smells here :smileyvery-happy: even the simplest of minds can figure this one out. over the next 6 moths apple is fixing all the junk that went wrong with the release of the first piece of junk. in my technical field of study i see many people with different phones. i have found 3 people.....three....who are happy with their iFail 4.0 the rest, and for some reason there are many, cant stand it and wish they would have chosen a different device.

lastly, you have to remember that this is america and oh how our society likes to sue people. for this reason, companies take extra precautions to make absolutely sure when they release something it is up to par with .... public perception. if verizon releases 2.2 updates to some phones and the software damages the phone physically or prevents certain apps or functions from working properly....SLAP! lawsuit. at&t and apple have been dealing with several lawsuits over the past few months as a result of the iFail 4.0 (and a few other things) apple ended up offering extended returns, and free cases to millions of people just for example.

yes, the 2.2 update will be very nice and increase the value and functionality of the phone. be patient, do it right, wait for the licensed update and enjoy! and add this topic to the ever growing LONG list of crap i keep hearing about that i wish people would stop talking about :smileyvery-happy:

VERIZON: My HTC sync no longer works after upgrading to Froyo!! First, I got an error message that my phone did not have enough memory to sync. I tried installing some other versions of HTC sync, and now it doesn't recognize there's a phone plugged in....

wtf is with Wireless Carriers and doing phone upgrades over the air in batches? Just put the update files on your website and let your users do it instantly. I never had to go through any of this bull back when I was a Windows Mobile user on the Motorola Q and the HTC Touch Pro. I would just go to the Manufacturer's website (Motorola & HTC) and just download the OS/Firmware updates updates from them.

They probably do FOTA/OTA because they can control the firmware better that way. Releasing the firmware for download makes it very easy to root the devices, and they're trying to minimize that. The downside to using open-source software in commercial applications... Vendors want to control what's being put on the devices.

They should at least implement a legit pull method for the phone, and follow up with pushed notifications. Phones with wifi capabilities should really be able to bypass the whole OTA download process.

Oh well, I'm still waiting here in Houston.

believe it or not....most users prefer OTA updates. most android users don't even realize there is an update until it is pushed to their phone. it's much more easy/convenient to "most" users. those of us on this forum just happen to bit a little bit more into our phones than most....lol. i do agree though, it would be nicer if we could just plug in the phone and download it.
