Blackberry Curve 8330 vs Droid 2

So I'm heavily considering trading in my Blackberry Curve 8330 for a new Droid 2. Was wondering if anyone else recently made the switch and can shar their experiences/opinions.

I like my Blackberry a lot, but it looks like there is a lot more stuff I can do with the Droid 2. My biggest concern is that I have read a lot of comments saying that the service/reception is kind of Shotty on teh Droid 2 and people are having reception and dropped call issues.

Overall I would say I am pretty happy with Verizon service when it comes to coverage area and reception (at least with my Blackberry), so I am compelled to beleive that the issue is with the Droid 2 phone itself.

Would love to hear others opinions on this topic.

I have the BB Storm 1 and my new Droid X should be here today. My wife recently upgraded from a Curve to the Droid 2 and she is loving it. She primarily uses it for the phone, texting, facebook and now droidtris (Tetris clone). The browser is a HUGE improvement. Not only do you get much better rendering, javascript support and flash, but it is fast! Loading webpages on the BB was painfully slow and we usually tried to avoid it if possible. Browsing on the Droid 2 is enjoyable and I can see us using the desktop even less. And the app support for Android in my opinion is much better and I think even simple apps look more polished than their BB versions.

I got a Droid 2 last week and had the original Droid before that. I taught my Mom how to use a Blackberry last year (8900). Based on that I can say that the Droid 2 is a highly functional phone, especially from a email and internet, especially internet standpoint. The pages load in 5 - 15 seconds depending on web density. Its nearly laptop fast. I know the brower on Blackberry's is weak to say the least. The camera is excellent and you can take video with it too. From a communications standpoint it's outstanding. It's very easy to take a picture of something and with the click of 1 button, you can email it to anyone, post it on facebook or myspace or anywhere you like. I like that functionality a lot. The best way I can describe the phone overall is that it's like having a small powerful computer in your pocket, fast, functional and pocketable. The Android OS works best when you have a gmail account as your primary email account. It downloads messages quickly. Gmail also uses your list of contacts as contacts for the phone. You can transfer your contacts from your old phone into the Droid 2 and it will populate in your gmail contact list. My friend just took my old Droid and transferred his yahoo contacts into it and it populated in gmail and he set up his yahoo account in the phone too, so he can work from both.

Overall, I really highly recommend the Droid 2. It has a learning curve if you're used to a Blackberry, but worth it in the end. Its a great daily phone with a nice camera and camcorder and excellent social capabilities. I find myself using the pc at home less because the Droid is so capable. Get it!!

I remember another blackberry user switched to the LG Ally. The person had problems with email and landed up switching back to the blackberry that they had before. I just find the android phones in general a remarkable phone. You should really try it out. You do have 30 days to try out a phone if you buy directly from Verizon.

Pitting a Blackberry against any Droid, when it comes to security, is like putting a featherweight fighter in the ring with a heavyweight champion. from a security perspective there is not competition from an Android based device. As an entertainment platform my Droid 2 kicks the Blackberry's **bleep**, but I still like my Blackberry better for most things. I especially like that on my BB I can holld a letter a little longer and change it to a capital letter. The Droid to does have autocompletion of word suggestions that can really make texting faster. The BB has a voice recording application that either is not on the Droid 2, or is not intuitively available. The BB works all over the world, the Droid 2 is tied to the Verizon network which means it isn't going to make phone calls in most of the world. The BB uses a SIM card so you can get it unlocked and use different SIM that may save you money. The Droid 2 is not so flexible, you'll have to pay Verizon for anything you wish to do.

I agree with the security issue.....on 2.1. Froyo 2.2 is vastly imprvoved to the point where some companies that rate those things are revising their security ratings on Froyo to good, versus unacceptabe before. The security updates on Froyo 2.2 are vast. I am now using it with our server at work as our computer guy says the system updates make the Droid 2 much less vulnerable. Hope that helps.

Oh BTW, I've had NO reception issues of any kind. I have 3G 95% of the time and I haven't dropped a call in a couple of years.
