Transfering texts to new phone

Question

My X is having hardware issues and must be replaced. My question is can I transfer my text messages to my replacement.

There are a number of ways, but one of the easiest is to go to the Market and grab a free program. This one works perfectly and will dump a backup file to your SD Card. When you get the new phone, simply download the program again, hit restore and it will find your backup copy.
