froyo and timeline complaints

I have read almost all froyo blogs and even the ones on here, and one thing comes to mind when I do read them, kids. froyo has no release date, it says end of summer, not september 8th or the 10th, september 22nd is the end. The droid had the same issue and passed its release date and everyone complained, just not sure why everyone is so hyped about 2.2. I have gone trough 7 phones from the original droid to the droid 2 and now the droid x, froyo is not that impressive, all my issue were signal related to where I am and it took them 7 times to figure that out, if it takes them till sept 24, I don't care, my kids were not this impatient when toy story 3 was coming out and they are kids, timelines are meant to be broken and when one is on time I will be very amazed. The droid x is Verizon's highest quality phone and they might be making some extras for it or they are just holding back because people threatened to call the FCC or Verizon corporate officials because froyo is not here, its not that important, so when you have realized that froyo can save your life then you can complain as much as you do.

See the problem is that a lot of us bought our phones on July 15th, 2010 (i.e. Launch Day). Back then whether you bought it in the store or over the phone, VZW sales associates sold us all a bill of goods that did not pan out.

On July 15th, nobody was talking about Droid 2 or the fact that it would come direct with Android 2.2. Even knowing that would not have gotten me to wait for it as I detest physical qwerty keyboards. Seeing the demo videos of the X reminded me of the orginality of the iPhone / iPod Touch and that made me want this phone.

Going back to the bill of goods. In another post, I mentioned my sales person told me that Froyo was on track from August 2010. Back in July, I had no reason to doubt the sincerity of my sales person. Again, their was no talk of Droid 2, but all a lot of us heard that day was just how awesome this phone was going to be with Froyo and Flash 10.1.

The other problem is the self-appointed Forum Police. If you attempt to express an opinion of what you were told, then they try to shut you down. How do they know what I was told? Are they telepathic? Are we sharing one body like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde?

Unless they know where I bought my phone from, then they not likely to know what conversation I had with my sales person.

As a customer, all I want is answers. I think we are entitled... don't you?

Unlike you...I seemed to know that we would get the update LATE IN SUMMER.

Just like it was told to us on June 23.....IN WRITING.

{please keep your posts courteous}. We will get the update when it is ready.

Evidently you did not do enough research on the phone before you bought it. The information was freely available.

Very true, but now the droid 2 is available and I have seen hands on a couple issues with the dinc, and I have been told a lot of different things from Verizon reps as far as a release date, not to name a few but they did not know what froyo was or android 2.2 was, that's why I limit myself on what I can believe but I don't understand what you are saying I would be inpatient too but also reps get there info from Verizon, well Verizon knows when it will be released 48 hrs before, just like the DROID and DROID INC, the release of it was almost exactly 48 hrs before it hit, and was in PDF form when it was put out to owners, IM sorry you were told august, but hopefully they will learn from there mistakes

Apparently, what you know and what I know are two different things.

I know what I was told and what I expected from a phone company that has served me over the past decade.

You say i whine and complain. I don't see it that way. I only want what I was promised on launch day. I was promised an upgrade that would give me Flash 10.1. My sales person did not say Late Summer or Early September.

Ultimately, its counter-productive to fight one another when the common enemy is VZW.

When CBS threatened Jericho, the fans banded together. They got CBS to do the right thing.

A feverent fan base known as Trekkers (or Trekkies) keeps CBS (and Paramount Pictures) producing more Star Trek content.

We should be opposing them unilaterally and bring pressure on them to act. As long as we are divided they can stall. Stopping them from stalling may not speed up the Froyo update, but we just might get some straight answers out of them.

And this is where I can going to rest my case.

I had the same issue (was sold a bill of goods too). But as u asked, I want to know how all these others know what they told u, me, or any(1) else that they weren't w/, when we bought the X, that's amazing. I can tell u my wife knows what they said, because she was the only (1) w/ me! I'm definitely a pretty level headed adult w/ pretty good common sense, but as I've stated in another post, I guess we shouldn't believe anything any(1) else tells us, of course unless it comes from the CEO of vz or moto, since the rest are just lying to us (u know what they say, believe none of what u hear & only 1/2 of what u see). I guess it's hell going thru life completely paranoid.

Also by the way there are some on these forums that no matter what u say, their opinion is the only (1) that counts & is right.

(For those that think I'm mean & nasty, guess what ur wrong. It's just an extreme case of sarcasm, when pushed into it!)

Ok, let's just say Verizon says "We're not 100% sure when 2.2 will be released, but we'll get it out a soon as we can." Yeah, if they said that you'd feel satisfied because you got a "straight" answer, right?

And to the person who said thier salesperson "promised" them the 2.2 update in August..... when he/she said that you reiterated, "Now, you promise, right? And they said, "Oh Yes, I promise!"

You obviously have never had a friend or parent who said something like, "I promise I'll pick you up at 6pm" and then they show up at 6:15 with some excuse. i.e. flat tire, traffic, had to stop for gas, etc. What did you do, call the attorney general and take them to court because they broke thier promise?

My goodness, there has to be more pressing problems in your lives than an update to your cell phones.

2.2 update for your Droid "X" is coming.... I promise! I don't know exactly when it's comeing, but it's coming.... and I really do "promise!"

Come on birdman. Evidently you never read the joint press release put out by verizon and motorola when they first announced the upcoming release of the droid x. They both clearly said that once the update to froyo was put out that this already great phone would become even better. Their words. Not an exact quote. But pretty close. They made more of a big deal about the upcoming release of froyo than any post put on these forums to date. They set the expectations. And if you feel as though your just holdinng a phone in your hands than you have no idea what this phone was.promoted as being able to do. Its a phone. Its a gps. Its a camera and video recorder. A mini computer capable of not just browsing the web but also downloading programs and running them. Please don't cheapen what i paid good money on. They advertised this phone as much more than a phone and it is so much more. Google the original press release if you want. It may just open your eyes but then again you may have to admit your wrong and begin to feel as though you didn't get what you paid for.

I am assuming this was directed my way, and do you realized you proved my point? If the phone is all that you described and all these features make the device worth having, then what is the big "I need Froyo Now!!!" and the phone in not all it should be? Enjoy what you have now and stop complaining every second about what you don't have. I understand what I have and as you should notice I am patiently waiting and not complaining about the device unlike so many has been. They keep acting like the phone isnt able to function without Froyo... Come On, isnt there more important things to worry about, if you think not then its time to wake up to reality.

By the way, in your post I didnt notice a statement from them that reported a official released date, so when did they lie about release information? Also once again you quoted a post that still has never been posted from Verizon, just because they claim source came from Big Red does not prove anything until a OFFICIAL REPORT FROM COMPANY.

You know what i think is so funny, that people consider September late-summer. Apparently you guys don't understand your months. There are 12 months in a year, and 4 seasons, Spring is march april may, summer is june july & AUGUST, FALL is SEPTEMBER, october november and winter is December january february. Now i dont see how september falls as summer one bit. September is a FALL month not a summer month. As for the update, i gave up on waiting, i have better things in life than to wait for a non-existant update that MAY come sometimes this FALL. Summer is over, FALL is upon us.

Fall doesn't officially start until the vernal equinox which usually occurs around September 21st. Same goes for winter around December 21st (the shortest day of the year).

That is the original press release clearly stating that 2.2 was going to be included late summer. It was used as a sales pitch to help drive sales. 2.2 and flash are clearly there if you took the time to read it. I'm no techie. I just took the time to understand what i'm buying because i wanted to be sure that the phone i purchased would be provided updates and fixes for the next two years until my new every two allowed me to upgrade again. I'm not attacking you birdman but you are essentially calling me a liar when all you had to do was just google the original press release. They offered a great phone bit also stated clearly that the 2.2 update would make this phone so much better. I just want what they advertised and what i decided to spend my hard earned money on.

Sorry dude call them supporters or what not. You do not grasp the concept of time. Do you know when Summer officially ends? September 23 is officially the first day of all. Just like the iPhone with MMS support they said late summer. Everything got thrown out of court because Late summer or end of summer could constitute anything from August to September. There's also the term within reason. Also Motorola also stated that it is planned and not a promise. As with plans it can change.

Calling someone a supporter because they something you don't like to hear without knowing all the details is ignorant. You should stop reading the fandroid sites as most of the time they are willing to stretch the truth a bit just to get those clicks, because as much as they act like they are not they are a business and they need the revenue from their ads.

I don't own a Droid X, but I own a Droid 2. I thought about buying the X, but I opted for the D2 for the keyboard, and the X is too large for my tastes. As I told someone else. The Droid may have gotten it before the X, but would you want the problems the Droid got(They been complaining a lot lately), or give them the time to possibly fix a lot of the problems the Droid has been having? I willing to bet you'd be a happy camper IF it ran better than the Droid users.

Evidently you didn't read the press release because if you had you would of noticed that the link i provided was on the verizon site and not some site reporting second hand news and it clearly states that 2.2 is a promised upgrade designed to make this already good phone even better. On the motorola site there is a moderator by the name of matt who is a motorola employee and he clearly stated that the rollout to 2.2 would begin in the first part of september because it addressed issues some were having with their phones. Lastly if your going to group all the people who only want what was promised by big red and motorola as whiners then prepare to be seen as defenders of organizations who don't deliver on written promises posted clearly on their own sites. All they have to do is have the decency to say that they are having issues with the update and i'm sure these conversations wouldn't be happening.

Hey, Galaxie, I did say "we", not you specifically.

I did read that post by "Matt" as it made headlines on some of the geekboy sites (and yes, i read them....sigh..).

I have said, and still do, that I do agree with the basic premise of this conversation, that Verizon and Moto could help out with a short statement on the status of the update. I did read that the Adobe Flash licensing issue and some issues with Exchange were a couple of sticking points behind the delay. I just can't go along with the "Verizon lied" premise. At least, not yet. They still have until September 21st to deliver the update. And of course, that's not going to satisfy anyone with strong feelings about the delay of the update.

And I REALLY hope that the update includes a fix for the low ringer volume.

They haven't lied yet. They said "late summer", and that is not over yet.

I get the impression that some people must have just fallen off the turnip truck. Just how long have you been around the wireless phone business anyway? When you ask a wireless store phone employee any question about a release date for a phone, update, accessory, etc., you many times get differents dates from from different employees. Sometimes even in the same stores. This can happen at all the carriers, not just Verizon.

I remember way back when I had an Omnia 1 and the Omnia 2 was coming out. I thought that would be my next phone so I asked the Verizon store employees if they had heard any info regarding release dates. Well, the first answer I got when asking the question in June '09 was August of 2009. I got different dates almost every time I asked up to the actual release date which was sometime in December of '09 if I remember correctly. My point is it got released when samsung and Verizon finally had it ready for release. (I never did get the Omnia 2, I hung onto my Omnia 1 until I finally "pulled the trigger" and got the Droid X)

It's the same with the 2.2 update for the Droid "X".... It'll be released when Verizon/Motorola/Google finally agree it is ready to be released. Doesn't matter what some store employee told you. And some of you talking about breach of contract, or false advertising, or some such... and contacting your states atorney generals.... good luck with that. It's a MINOR (2.1 to 2.2) wireless phone OS upgrade for petes sake! Please let us know on these forums if you get a call back saying they think you have a case. Heck, by the time the case got to court, the "X" would be history. Most of us will have had 2 or 3 newer phones by then.

This is just some ramblings of a guy in Hawaii at 3:25am.

Life is really short when you think about it and there are many more important things that you could be doing. Like, calling your mother and telling her you love her! When's the last time you did that? I guarantee you'll make her day and think about how good you'll feel!

Like many, I want 2.2 not because I feel my phone is incomplete, but its because that is what I was promised on launch day. We were given this mental image of how cool our new phones would be once we got the update. Instead all we have seen is other phones get it.

If VZW would just level with us, it would go along way to silence the forum posts. If the delay is licensing over Flash, the MS Exchange, or some other bug fix, then just tell us so.

Don't treat us like mushrooms.

We deserve better.

I never finished my thought in my last post.

I called Moto Tech Support and spoke to a Shenequa. This was around August 30th. She said that X users would have the update by the following week. That would be this week.

Now I am not saying this to get anyone's hopes up, but here is an example of their own people saying something that probably won't follow through. The whole point is that we need an official statement from Verizon or Motorola. We need someone to officially go on record and not a customer service rep making minimum wage.

When you pay money for an item or service, you're entitled to express your opinions about the quality. If your lawyer or doctor doesn't provide you with enough bang for your buck, you complain. If your grocer sells you spoiled food you also complain. But here on the forums, if you pay Verizon $220 a month for your service and you bought a phone, data plan etc., based on representations you sure should be able to complain. Some of you don't think we paid for that privilege. I disagree.

I DO pay that $220 a month plus upgrades to my phones when I need them and I AM complaining. I want 2.2 or at least an idea of when it's coming and why it's delayed. I don't think I should have to do web searches to find out rumors. How hard is for Verizon to keep us informed?

I'm not flaming anyone and certainly expect to be flamed for this comment. However, if some of you guys who flame this post want to pay my Verizon bill, I'll shut up.

I definately don't have a gripe against people voicing their frustrations, but what is gripe-worthy are those extreme individuals who start to threaten class action and call their attorney generals a month after a device is released.

And, without saying I know more than anyone else....but how come I understood when purchasing the X that the update would be out "soon" and never felt lied to and misled by Verizon? The same information that was available to me....on and before Launch day when I placed my online order, was available to everyone to clearly see and understand.

If you bought the phone and the sales rep said to you "yes, this phone has 2.2 on it, enjoy" and then you got home and it wasnt there, then you should be upset that you were lied to.

Most people don't even understand what 2.2 brings to the phone and what it does not, but they insist on yelling fire in a crowded theater.

I'm not sure where to weigh in on the entire debate of complaining but I would like to know what type of timeline we are looking at.

I bought the X for several reasons. First off, I had not purchased a new phone since 2005 and was up for a new one since 2007. I made it by with old clamshells, and heck they worked what I needed. However times change and my requirement of a phone changed, I needed something that was"Smart" and easy to use with a promise of improvements. In the past I sold advertising and managed that greatly without a crackberry or any other type of smartphone but I am now making a career change to become a commercial pilot. The old phones were OK for flight planning but nothing beats the screen size of the X when looking at bad weather or other information when your looking for a "Go or No GO" call.

I understand that implementation of a new OS on a device that has other possibly conflicting software can be tricky at best. So, it does not bother me when I have to wait. I want my X to stop freezing, locking when a call comes in, and having data/network issues. I can wait, but a timeline is nice or at least a progress report.

Don't give me a half baked version of froyo that is full of problems, give me the one that has the majority of bugs fixed, like 90%. But while I'm waiting give me a timeframe, or instead announce that Froyo is still in testing and that only select units will receive it. Maybe that was stated and I missed it, but if not that would have been a great way/nice way to tell folks not to get their underwear in a wad.

If I had to name the most important addition that froyo brings that I want/need, it would be the flash support. There are several FAA approved flight prep sites that require it.

I will wait and be joyous when a working version of Froyo makes it to me, but until then I can make do with my PC, FBO flight service computer, a FSS, or just use Pilot Mycast.

Remember, it may suck but Patience Truly is a Virtue. Maybe one too many of us have lost.

I am taking the since you are having freezing issues you havent did a hard reset with auto restore option disabled that has proved to work for so many users? Also the Flash is already up and running, have you downloaded update from market, I havent had one issue using flash.
