Any idea when the 2.2 update is available for the fascinate
Hi.
Verizon Wireless began pushing Android 2.2, Froyo, to the Samsung Fascinate on April 21, 2011. Enhancements include support for Adobe Flash Player. You can visit www.verizonwireless.com/fascinatesupport for more information and download instructions for the software update. Customers will also be able to download the update manually by going to Settings > About Phone > Update Phone.
Thank you,
I wanna know when its coming out too. Hoping it will fix some of the bugs on the phone. Voice search, and or dialing never works... Plus GPS definitely has its issues.
Froyo for the American series of Galaxy S phones is still in testing but the good news is Verizon Wireless is releasing a maintenance update for the Fascinate sometime between the end of this week(Black Friday weekend) and the first week of December. It's suppose to fix the problems with the internal GPS and many other little tweaks of the phone, about 30 to be precise. That's all for now.Hang in there Froyoans. :smileyhappy:
Just wondering if any of these updates will allow for the audio port to work on both the car mount and the mount for the home. This was one feature I was really looking forward to using.

I would think so @bball1794,Samsung has been trying really hard lately behind the scenes, to get back to it's real consumer base with cell clientel. If the feature your speaking of isn't addressed, gather in numbers, that always seems to put fire on their heels and get the wheels of progress moving.
Verizon already has FROYO but we are existing customers who are of no concern they want to entice new customers with iphone and not update the firmware of their exsisting customers. They rope you into a 2 year contract with an early termination fee of 350 and then wont update your device. So instead of having a great new smart phone with current updates you have an under performing device that your stuck with for two years. I thought the mysterious fees and chargers were the only way verizon screwed us but now we they are screwing us by holding FROYO hostage. Incidentally gingerbread will be ready for distribution anytime and we do not have FROYO. Great to know where we rate as customers. How bout a verizon representative not only provide us with a release date but also an explanation of why we are being put on hold
I'm going to go ahead and assume your frustrated ^
GET OVER YOURSELVES, it's not like we're the only android users without froyo, while I agree we should have it, this phone works well without it. they mat also be just waiting until gingerbread comes out, since it's supposedly around the corner.
yeah..anyhow..i'm pretty excited to hear what they have to say at the big LTE get-together tomorrow.
Whenever VZW gets on the ball and finishes the update? My guess about 6 months after 2.3 comes out.
am just waiting Froyo so I can use some bloody apps and games ^^;; and ofc better if it fixes some bugs ^^ still I like it as it is ^^
Doesn't seem like it will be released for a while. There's a good amount of evidence around the web now to suggest that Samsung has passed on the base code on to Verizon.Verizon is just doing mods on it now, preparing it for OTA.
You are right it will be a while. I just got off the phone with a Samsung manager who stated that Verizon has had Froyo for a considerable amount of time, and that they too wish our phones would be updated because it is making Samsung look worse.
Verizon does not give a **bleep** they know the majority of us our enslaved to them because of their outrages 350 early termination fee. They also know they have better coverage. I saw this when I had nextel. Nextel knew that everyone wanted direct connect at the time and their customer service dropped dramatically because they knew the customers were not going anywhere.
Verizons customer service standpoint is what are you going to do leave? Give us our 350 dollars and leave you will be back and be chained to another two year prison sentence with a phone that is two android OS behind now and they could care less. They are last to have front facing cameras, even t-mobile beat them to 2.3, there plans are the highest of all the carriers and you get less (IE sprints simply everything and the fact that you can share that with your family). I am unfortunately not in a financial position to justify taking my four lines away from verizon. However at this point I would gladly trade some dead spots and a couple of lost calls to have a phone such as the EVO (2.2) the Nexus S (2.3) the G2 (2.2) or several other android phones whose carriers were concerned enough to update their phones for their customers.
Verizon, Does it really take that long to take a good operating system and destroy it with BING and make it slower with your Bloatware that no one is going to use. Blockbuster App really? They almost went out of business. VZ navigator are you crazy google maps and navigation are free do you really think any of us want any of your bloatware? Put your bloatware in the market place and if we want it we will download it. Now give us the **bleep** Froyo already now that Gingerbread is out.
To those who say they are waiting patiently as they want fewer bugs. Do you really think Verizon is working hard to remove the Bugs? Hell no they are dragging their feet because they are preparing to market the Iphone and pushing the 4G which is nothing new sprint has been had 4G.
To those that say do you think other carriers are going to treat you better. Well other carriers have updated their phones. But that is not the point, the point is just because one may be treated ok by their carrier does not mean they should not be encouraged to treat their customers better.
Thanks for nothing verizon
One of your many truly unhappy customers.
yeah, Samsung finalized their coded about a month and half ago so it looks like the carriers are sitting on their hands now. Verizon isn't exactly known for timely updates either. I came from a blackberry and if it weren't for leaks, I would've probably gone insane waiting on Verizon to approve/release updates. And then when they did, the version they push seems to be more buggy than the other test version.
And the other US carriers have had their Galaxy S devices out longer and they're still waiting for an official update.
For all who is afraid of the $350 ETF. Here is how to get funds to pay it off. Sell your Fascinate on eBay (it now goes anywhere in $350 range). Use proceeds from the sale to pay off ETF and be free from a contract.
I read that some people are ready to trade off few drop calls and spotting coverage for the latest OS. In the same regards, did you also considered trading your Windows XP PC/laptop with DSL/Cable connection for Windows Vista PC/laptop with 56K modem.
Watch what you wish for. I was sitting with few of my coworkers in the downtown San Francisco office and we exactly had all major West coast wireless providers.
I had Verizon (Fascinate), another guy had Sprint (HTC Evo), another guy had Sprint (Epic 4G), and one girl had AT&T (iPhone4). We tried to do the same thing, to access our company website, guess who finished first...me with Fascinate, Epic came second just with a few seconds delay, Evo third 15 seconds later (even though it is supposed to be 4G, it is not available in SF), and the last was iPhone with more than a minute late.
So as for me, the fast reliable network will beat latest OS at any time.
This is pretty important. The JIT, lighted buttons, and GPS, are OK to wait for, but all of the latest versions of Google's apps are 2.2-and-up only. That is frustrating to wait for.

What good is the fast reliable network if you cannot view the majority of videos on the web because verizon will not give the Galaxy S users Froyo which includes 10.1 flash support?
It is not always weather or not verizon is better than the other networks it maybe that we would would our service provider to strive to be better. Defending BIG RED who imprisons us to a device that is not updated may be better than T-mobile imprisoning us to a 2 year sentence with spotty data coverage but it does not mean it is good. Atleast T-mobile was proactive and they already have a phone with 2.3 and Verizon is still stalling on 2.2.
I just read that Sprint has started pushing the OTA Froyo update. I only skimmed this as my focus is on unlocking my phone but if this is true it is yet another sad day for customers of BIG RED. I have left a message for a friend of mine who has the epic to check to see if his update is available. I will update later when he gets back to me. Sprint beat verizon to 4G, beat them to a family share plan for data and appears to have beat them to the 2.2 update for the Galaxy S line. The link is below

If you guys hate VZW so much do what I did last year... BUY OUT OF YOUR CONTARCT and go with another carrier.
Then you can do what I did after that... BUY OUT F THAT CONTRACT as well as soon as you realize that VZW REALLY does have the best coverage.
{please keep your posts courteous} You knew your device had 2.1 when you bought it. if you wanted 2.2 or 2.3 you should have waited.
The sense of entitlement amazes me! I want it and I want it NOW!!!
I knew the device was 2.1, but when I was asked by the Verizon salesman if I wanted to add the car dock to the purchase I asked him when 2.2 was coming out since the little sticker over the audio port said 'Not available until 2.2". The Verizon salesperson told me the update will be out very soon...like 2 to 3 weeks. That was in September. Now Verizon had no problem taking my money for the now useless car dock. Not really a sense of entitlement issue, more of a not getting what I paid for issue.
Sorry you got lied to, but here is something to remember:
NEVER believe ANYTHING a COMMISSIONED sales person tells you. They get paid based on the number of units/signed contracts/accessories or insurance packages they sell you.
Unfortunately, SOME of them will tell you anything you want to hear.
Verizon needs to hurry up and "officially" release dj05 for the Fascinate if they're going to keep putting off froyo. It's not Froyo but the gps lag is gone and the backlight on the soft touch buttons stay on until the screen times out. Just installed and this is probably the way the Fascinate should've been out of the box.
Thats not an acceptable excuse for me. I really don't know why you are making excuses for very poor business practices and trying to put the blame on the customer...puzzling. That being said, I love the phone and can live without a lot of the features that 2.2 will bring. But it irritates the hell out of me that they will sell and advertise a function of an accessory that is close to 4 months and counting from being available to use.
- First, Verizon/Samsung are buffoons for not updating the Fascinate. Incompetent from a business/marketing perspective. Period
- As a customer, if you didn't like the phone with 2.1, you shouldn't have purchased it assuming software updates would make you like the device. (And yes to be honest I have done this so I'm guilty of this and not slamming you. I'm saying this for my benefit as much as anyone else's) If customers refused to purchase a device then all parties would be more motivated to get with the plan.
- Considering how much you will spend with V on a 2 year contract, if you are unhappy, then $350 is money well spent.Spend the money and get out. That also sends a message to V. They hate losing customers. When you cancel be sure to tell them to ...
[Please keep it clean - Thanks!] If you can't afford the $350 then you better learn to like your device.
Truth be told no other carrier/phone combo lives up to the experience of THAT OTHER PHONE. Period. That other company manages the experience of THEIR customers IN SPITE OF the carrier. It's why V doesn't have that phone. V (and all carriers) are hell bent on using their customers as "targets" to get them with "gotcha" apps and fees vs. building a relationship.
Really? Is that why THAT OTHER COMPANY finished DEAD LAST in Customer Service Analysis? I don't see what all the fuss over 2.2 is. My phone works absolutely fine without it, I have no need for a docking station, it serves no useful purpose. Verizon doesn't need THAT OTHER PHONE either, but I know that they are getting it and that is fine, I will stay with my Android device simply because of the ease of use, the vast app market, scratch resistant screen, Super AMOLED screen is AWESOME, I don't use the gps enough for it to bother me,
Welp, I'm sure everyone will just love the latest trip through the rumor mill posted by someone over on xda. DJ05 or newer would be a nice Christmas present for most people but it won't make anyone looking for flash or a working audio jack on the docks happy.

""Any further updates as to when we will be releasing Froyo 2.2 for the Fascinate??"To which the moderator responded: "Currently preparing to release MR2 (fixes only), FROYO will follow (early next year). The load is too large to put FROYO 2.2 into MR2."I do not know what build MR2 is, but Big Red simply refers to builds as MRx, where x = the number of builds (read: times) they've updated. So the jump from DH12 to DI01 is considered MR1, this would be MR2. I however assume its DJ05 or even a newer build which has DJ05 and bug fixes that came from that, but we'll have to wait and see. That being said, the moderator who responded is a VERY technical person and RELAYS actual device issues to all the OEMS on a daily basis. I would take his statements as fact, hes in charge of the internal forums for ALL phones, company wide, its about the most official, strictly technical, non marketing garbage answer you're going to get. Its his job to know this stuff...."
Samsung Could have cool phones! But they ran to potty! before joining the Party !
