Not a good start, guys...

I was looking forward to getting the Droid Incredible in and playing with it last night, in hopes of getting my girlfriend (who still thinks that the Razr is the greatest thing ever, which it was years ago, LOL) to use it. So I pull everything out of the box (a CPO phone, which so far, I've good luck with), assemble the phone and pull out the charger cord.

Hmmm...That doesn't look right...well, hey, it doesn't fit, either. I have a USB-to-micro-USB cable here. So Verizon has sent the wrong charger cable with this phone. What kind of goofy charger port is THIS? So I rummage through "The Cabinet"..you know the cabinet that we all have, full of extra cables, chargers, adapters, of all different types...Oh, come on, out of 11 USB cables, NOTHING FITS THIS THING??

This isn't the way I planned to spend the evening with this phone. Oh, well, perhaps I can stop by Wal-Mart on the way to work and hopefully get one there.

Between this and some of the things I've been reading in the Inc forum, I'm not feeling particularly good about this purchase. I was lusting after an Incredible in June when they weren't available because of the screen shortage. Then the Droid X came out and I forgot about the Inc. Are people generally having good experiences with the Inc with several folks having trouble as is the case with the X?

You mean you didn't get the plug (they call it a transformer) which the regular USB side plugs into? And it isn't Verizon, they get their packages from Motorola. BTW, I also had the Incredible for all of about five days before I returned it. Like everything else, it has its pros and its cons. For me, the cons just outweighed the pros. Back to my Droid X.

Not to make any excuses for Verizon, but that's the risk you take with a CPO phone. As far as micro USB cables, they are the standard and are available for less than $5 on Amazon. Good luck with your new phone.

It is the right charger! I picked up my Incredible last week and initially had trouble plugging it into the phone. Thought the same thing and almost got on the phone to call Verizon about it. I guess the first time is a little difficult, because I haven't had any problems with it since. The "flat" side feeds on top.

I was straddling the fence between the Incredible and the Continuum, but went with the Incredible because of its proven track record. The phone has been out for some time now. My only wish is that it had Swype.

Mort, yes, I got the transformer, but the cable that came with it has a micro-USB cable end on it. That fits our Droid X. It IS NOT the right cable, BK2. The micro-USB is physically TOO WIDE to insert into the charger port of the Incredible. Entirely too obvious.

Yes, the MicroUSB cables are available all day at all kinds of places. And when I need one of those cables, I will check all kinds of places to find what I need. I currently have several in "The Drawer", so that could be a while...

I struck out at Wal-Mart (what a shock) this morning, so it's off to the Verizon store on my lunch break. Hopefully, I'll be Inc-ing tonight (for better or worse)

Okay, just left the Verizon store.

Man, don't I feel silly....

The micro-USB charger cable is indeed the correct cable. I could not, for the life of me, get that cable into the Dinc's charger port. But the store guy showed new what I was doing wrong.

So now my Dinc is charging. We still set it up tonight and see what it will do.

Sorry for the mistake, Verizon...

Update....well, I tried. Really hard. But...

Turns out this Incredible can't be activated, for some reason, according to the CSR that tried to help me get it activated. That, and the earpiece has a bad crackle in it, I guess the little speaker is blown. So they are going to exchange it for me.

And I can't help but think that with everything that has happened with this phone, the writing is on the wall.

I'm paying up for another Droid X.

Gerio, sorry to hear about your incredible problems with the Incredible (pun intended). I had both the Incredible and the Droid X, don't ask how I wound up with two smartphones (and two $30 charges for data). However, the HTC Incredible was returned after only five days. Like I said, there were a few things I really liked about the Incredible, like the ability to make different "scenes." I had one for work and one for social activities. I think the Incredible takes a slightly better picture than does the X. However, the cons outweighed the pros and back it went. I looked at the two Samsung smartphones, the Galaxy and the other one (forget the name), but they felt cheap compared to the Droid X, and their cameras are only 3.5 pixels. I looked at the Droid 2, and because of the QUIRKY keyboard, it felt like it weighed a ton, plus I love swype. I'm sticking with the Droid X. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best Android phone on the market.

Yeah, it was a bummer because the Incredible's screen looked REALLY nice.

I guess it's kind of good the way this has worked out. I was at my girlfriend's house tonight when I was working with the CSR to get the DINC activated. When it was all over and I mentioned to her that I couldn't activate the new phone, she asked me to show her the difference in the two, which was surprising to me because she had previously commented that it was rather large-feeling in her hands. She has really limited vision with up-close reading, so I showed her the dial-pad of the DINC, which she liked the idea of (still trying to wean her from her 5-year-old Razr that's on its last legs). Then she looked at the dial-pad on my Droid X and she instantly liked that MUCH better because the dial-pad covers most of the screen, making it much easier for her to see. Honestly, all she will do with the phone is press the speed-dial buttons 99.99% of the time (at least at first). So she stated that if I exchange the phone to get an X so she can use it.

Which was the idea all along.

Oh, well, the DINC seemed like a good idea at the time...and of course, there's no telling what will come out next year.

i have the inc....love it....no problems at all. had it since a week after it's release. wouldn't trade for any phone on the market. that being said, i've played with the X also. to me they are 6 of one, or half a dozen of the other. i simply like the smaller size....but as much as i like the inc....i see very little difference. get her the one she likes to hold in her hand better....that's what it really comes down to anyhow.
